free dining seems pretty tempting but whats the weather like at teh end of aug all thru sept? crowds are suppose to be light too...true?

Hi from another DISer in NJ!

Weather.com shows the average tems in Aug. and Sept. to be 90-92, with record highs of 100 and 98, and record lows of 64 and 56.

So, basically, it's HOT, lol! Crowds are supposed to be lower, which is why Disney started offering up free dining as well as the focus on preschool kids during that time of year. But, personally, I was there in October for 2 90-degree days, and I wouldn't want to do that again. We were drained, but that's us. Others don't mind the heat, but we do.

Another Jersey girl here!! August is wicked hot and humid and you are pretty much sweaty ALL DAY. It will most likely rain every single day, at least once. For some reason it feels 10x hotter at Animal kingdom than anywhere else!!

On the plus side, lines aren't bad at all. So as long as you stay hydrated and duck inside for a little AC from time to time, you'll be fine!!!:thumbsup2 It was very hot, and my hair was frizzed to death, but really the low crowds made it all worth it!!

oh god!! and i just read something on the comp about the east coast getting like mid 90's weather this summer!!! nah, i have to 3 year olds and i cant have then walking around in that heat. we went mid-dec last year and it was nice and cool, no lines...i guess ill wait..and why do us jersey girls worry about the frizz:eek: !!

:sunny:
The weather is VERY hot then. Its like baking on the beach:beach: except in the parks there is no ocean or pool to jump in. I refuse to go during the summer because of the heat and humidity. I will be there, though, on July 4th of this year only because I am chaperoning a group of kids from church at a music conference and they have chosen to go do the MK on July 4th:eek: (their only day off from the conference)
Not to mention I will be 6 1/2 mos preggo:scared1:
I would never plan my family vacation during the heat of the summer. Give me Nov, Dec. Jan or Feb. and I am good to go.

hi fellow jersey girls :goodvibes yep its hot hot... but I figure we will be roasting here also. I cant really got in off season with my oldest starting high school. I plan on taking it easy and not stressing.

Dana,

I love the diver sign. I have one scheduled for my son in august. Did you get the personalized menus also?

we did. actually they did two for us. one for my parents(it was their anniversary-also with the same diver-they just turned it arround) the menus were cute. we emailed them pics and they printed them on the menus. we did that the last day we were there-my parents had no idea-it was fantastic! they cried.you'll love it. make sure you have video or pics.

This will be our 2nd August Family Vacation - with a family of 6 and not wanting to take the kids out of school, we don't mind the heat. We live near New Orleans, so we are used to the heat and humidity (not that we like it!!).

I would recommend taking water bottles (we have filtered Brita and Culligan bottles). Ice and water are FREE in all the parks at concession stands, so we had an unlimited supply that was free! Everyone also had a fanny pack and/or backpack to carry their own bottle - I had enough carrying the camera, tickets, ponchos and autograph books!

Last year we took advantage of the hotel pool EVERY DAY. This year we're buying the PLUS + tickets and will visit the WDW waterparks as much as possible.

If it gets too sweaty, just wet a papertowel in any restroom to stay cool. And stop at every air conditioning location you can - indoor ride, restaurant or gift shop. At Animal Kingdom, get wet on the Kali Rapid River ride and you'll stay cool for the rest of the day (until you dry off!).

Probably the biggest reason we chose August is because Summer Camp stops at the end of July and rather than pay for a babysitter for 2 weeks before school starts, we'd rather spend the $$ at WDW!!!!!

I'm beginning to think this thread is almost all Jersey folks! :rotfl:

August and September is HOT HOT HOT. Not much difference I suppose from here at home during those same months-just that you may be out in the weather longer than your used to when your at Disney.

yeah- true about jersey. i swear its starting to give florida competition with the weather...my only problem..i know of one couple whos kid got pneumonia down there...they told me it was becuz of them going from hot to cool allday?both my kids are asthmatic and have to use a nebulizer when it gets real bad..could this be true? never had pneuminia nor my kids(thank god)so dont really know what causes it??

Anything that inflames the lungs can lead to pneumonia (bronchitis, common cold, asthma, etc.). Hot and cold extremes cause distress with the asthma, which then leads to pneumonia in some kids if they are consistently exposed to that situation without adequate treatment. DS is severely asthmatic too and we do the same thing-he carries his inhaler, turbohaler and then the nebulizer is back at our room when we go to Disney.

have you ever had this problem with him in the hot/cold atmosphere down there? when its that warm at home we tend to stay indoors so they really arent going from one extreme to the next..

As far as his asthma kicking up down at Disney, yes, we have had problems. It usually occurs within the first 2 days if he is going to have an extreme reaction to the constant hot/cold changes. We do bring Prednisone with us in case of an emergency. As much as I hate giving DS steroids, it is the difference between night and day with his breathing. When he was younger we gave him the syrup instead of the tablets-either way it was easy to travel with. DS always needs the basics (inhaler, turbohaler and nebulizer) when we do Disney...but he does not always require Prednisone. Believe it or not, we found that a mister works BEAUTIFULLY for him...he carries a large one (the big bottle/fan combo Disney sells) and he constantly is spraying himself in the face when we are out in the heat...and it helps him with his breathing. Thankfully we have not had any issues with pneumonia whether we were at Disney or at home. My kids are basically the same, they stay indoors in the summer heat, unless they are going in the pool. Otherwise the humidity just takes DS breath away.

we use the prednisone also and i try to use it sparingly but it does work wonders...
