The average on weather.com for the end of December says 69/45! Is it freezing at night?? We want to stay until midnight NYE, but if it's 45 degrees it will be tough (and I'm from Chicago!).

As a lifelong SoCal resident, I can safely say that it can get quite cold (for California) in December, but not always. I have seen Decembers that had 60 degree temepratures in the daytime, and it was in the 40's at night. I've been to Disneyland on days when it was 50 degrees in the daytime and 30 degrees at night, and I had to wear layers of clothing and ear muffs to stay warm.

In 2008, when I was at DLR in December I was freezing at night - and I am someone who can not tolerate heat but I love the cold! It was about 40 degrees or just above. I would have thoroughly enjoyed it if I had a coat with me. However, last year I was back at DLR on the same weekend in December that I had been there in 2007 and 2008. I was in a t-shirt with no covering for my arms at night and I was not freezing at all! I was fine with no jacket!! I think it was in the 50's.

I have seen massive storms in December, where it's so wet that the streets start flooding instantly, and I've seen Decembers where it's been 80 degrees. I would say that daytime temps in the 60's is pretty normal and expected, and nighttime temps would be in the 40's. Sometimes it drops to the 30's.

Anyway, if you haven't already, subscribe to our Disney at Christmas super thread, where we discuss everything pertaining to the holidays at DLR. It's a photo and planning/information thread.

Thanks! I will subscribe to the thread. Maybe if there are a lot of fun things going on I can handle the cold - it's 30 here in Chicago in December! I can't believe Cal gets that cold!

Sometimes it's in the 30's - not always. Sometimes it can be 30 degrees on February nights, too. I always find it weird when it is unseasonably warm in December - I want it to be cold, so it can feel like Christmas to me! I want to know we are having a change of season, at least (I just want to be prepares and have a coat with me)!! I don't know why I was freezing in 2008, but last year I was running around in a t-shirt in the middle of December at night.

Some of the best days in SoCal (for me) are in late Fall and Winter, when it's about 50 or 60 degrees in the daytime and there's a chill in the air and piles of leaves all over the ground. It's just chilly enough to wear a light jacket, but the sun is shining and the sky is crystal blue, not a cloud to be seen!!

Still, even when it's 30 degrees here, it's probably not the same bitter cold kind of 30 degrees that it is in Chicago, if that makes sense. It's freezing for US, because this is a desert state and we are used to warm weather. But it isn't as harsh and biting when it's 30 degrees here as it would be where you are from. So I think it will be pleasant for you if it's 30 or 40 degrees when you're here!

There are lots of fun things going on - you'll see all the fantastic photos in the Disney at Christmas thread and you'll know you have a lot to look forward to!!
