Weather - April or August?

Hi there

We're hoping to arrange a fly drive for 2012.
Can anyone advise us on what the weather might be like in April and August?

We'd like to spend a few days in Anaheim, drive to Hollywood and maybe stay at the coast.

April is cool. August is hot.

What would you call cool?
Bearing in mind that we're from the UK and our "cool" is about 50 degrees F

We're in the middle of Summer here and it's been one of the warmest days today at 26 degrees C.
