What is the old saying...you don't wear white after Labor Day. We were having a debate about wearing white clothes after Labor Day. My DH, thought it was okay to wear white clothes ( shirts, shorts). I'm not sure...what do you Floridians think? Any idea?

There are not "white after labor day" rules in Florida... The weather is virtually the same all year round (cold in winter but still sunny) so we wear anything anytime. I was born in NY (moved to FL when I was 7) and my mom used to say that all the time...she soon out grew it as Floridians don't follow that :)

I think it only applies to white shoes, not white clothes, and it doesn't count sneakers. Just white dress shoes/sandals.

We where whatever we want here in Florida all year round.. ESPECIALLY white. Dark clothes are not heat/humidity friendly. :sunny:

AS a proper Southern young lady:D , I was raised to not wear white shorts, pants, shoes, or carry white handbags before Easter and after Labor Day. I think places like WDW fall under the "resort wear" exception, kinda like cruise wear.

We were discussing this at work yesterday. Most of us (all raised in the South) agreed no white after Labor Day. That is shoes, pants, shorts, purse.

So, you have a week and a half to wear the white! :p

Here is a Yankee that also follows the no white after labor day policy.

Yep, not after Labor Day, and NEVER before Easter!

It was always shoes and purses where I grew up. Then there's
the "winter white" issue.

I wear whatever color I want no matter what time of the year it is.
I never did understand why it wasn't proper to wear white after Labor Day. It seems silly to me.

I hate fashion rules... but this one doesn't effect me since I never wear white anything except sneakers,

I survived the fashion police in NY and it was tiring, I left to get away from the RULES! In the South there are rules but no one annoys you with them.

Thanks guys for the replies. I too was raised no white after Labor Day. I also told DH well I wear white underwear all year, but no one will see those. :)

I am from NY and I was raised that you didn't wear white shoes or carry a white purse after Labor Day or before Easter. Winter white is okay, but not pure white. As for clothes, I NEVER wear white pants, but I suppose if I did I would stick to the above rule. However, if it is still warm enough for shorts I will wear white when I want and as for white tops, I will wear them whenever, no special rule of thumb.

The clothing I have wondered about in WDW had nothing to do with color (and I think the no white after Labor Day is an affectation) is too skimpy tank tops and the popular gym shorts with sayings across the behind and waist band rolled down.

Im in favor of comfortable clothing with a good fit.

My mom is really big on the no white after Labor day rule. I wore white shorts last Nov. when I went down to visit her in Northern VA. it was one of those freak hot days that felt like summer. She just couldn't believe that I would wear white shorts in Nov.:earseek:

I would definitely wear white in WDW anytime. It's so mild there.:D

What is the whole point of no white after Labor day? I mean where did this rule come from and what is the reasoning behind it? Because I can't see it.
