I have a Disney landyard with pins and since I got my name-tag yesterday, can I put that on my landyard even thought I'm off that day or is it adviced not to?:confused3

I would probably not.

The Disney Look policies prohibit Cast Members from wearing their costumes while visiting the Theme Parks or Resorts as a Guest, and this includes nametags.

In addition, just like while working, other Guests will seek you out to ask questions if you're wearing a nametag. It's cool to help people out every once in a while, but being consistantly asked questions on your day off can get annoying after a while.

If a Manager sees you, it can be punishable with a written for disobeying Disney Look. If you are caught twice in a six month period, it is grounds for termination. Same goes for having your CM ID out. Many CP's get in trouble for this. They believe they earn the right to wear their ID and nametag out in public, but when it results in punishment, they whine about not knowing. :/

Name tag is a definite no-no when you are off duty. That includes off property, so please don't go into CiCi's with it on, even if you are still in costume. Also, your name tag should never be on your lanyard to start with, unless you are storing it on your Company pin-trading lanyard to prevent losing it.

The ID thing is a little more touchy since the Policy Manual states: "While on Company property employees must wear their Company employee identification card so that it is clearly visible." Obviously, while in costume on stage, the ID should be concealed. When not in costume backstage it should be clearly visible. I finally asked my boss what the rules are about onstage out of costume or off property when someone challenged me on it and he told me that the way I had it, turned inwards in my ID holder (I back it up to my driver's license) was fine, just to be sure the barcode was concealed. My Company lanyard has a big "CM" on it, so there is no hiding the fact that I'm a Cast Member when I'm out and about.

Yeah, I probably would steer clear of showing off your a cast member any way you can when guests can see you. As others have pointed out, you can get in trouble for it.

There were times when I would simply be on break at work (i worked at the resorts) and my managers would make me take off every single item of costume I could if I wanted to go to our quick service food location for lunch. That included a lot... including name tag so it's something that is taken pretty seriously.

Also, a couple of times towards the beginning of the CP I would accidentally keep my company ID/lanyard out after using it to get in the park. If I was at MK, I wouldn't get past the Emporium without having some sort of cast member telling me I needed to put it away. It was an honest mistake and I always apologized and thanked them for the reminder, but it's just an example of how it is payed attention to :goodvibes

I was fortunate where I never had anything written about it but I'm sure it has and can happen. If you like to act CM like where guests are around, offer to take pictures for people if you see them holding their arm out taking self portraits or surprise families with fast passes if you have them and aren't able to use them or offer someone directions if you see them looking lost. People love that kind of stuff :-) Just don't make it known you are a CM:goodvibes

Your ID must be displayed if you are working but not in a "costume"... such as managers, or if you are asked to wear professional attire.

Other than that... always keep your ID/name tag hidden off the clock. I don't even suggest getting a lanyard. Just buy one of those ID pouches, and leave it in your pocket. While you should have it visible while you're backstage in plain clothes, it's not that hard to pull it out of your pocket to show some one when asked.

And name tags should only be worn when you're working. If you stop at the gas station after work, take it off before you go in. I was lucky to wear a vest that had my name tag on it, so after I clocked out, I would just put my vest in my bag for the next day.

CPs seem to love wearing their IDs while in the parks and it's against the rules. I don't know how many times I had to tell them to put it away, and some would give a look to kill for telling them that. I worked in photopass so if I took a picture like that, A) the photo would get deleted, B) I could get in trouble for taking a photo that is not allowed.

I hope more people read this thread.

yeah, and in addition, the last thing I do in the parks or otherwise is talk about being a CM. If you wanna be treated equally when you go out to eat on property, don't tell them you're a CM until the end of the meal. Otherwise you risk getting sub par service because they know they get 18% gratuity automatically. Not all servers, but I've had it happen more than once.

Additionally, don't even bother carrying your ID on you if you are gonna be drinking on property. I saw someone get puking drunk at Atlantic Dance Hall. They found out he was a CM...off duty, but a CM nonetheless, and he was terminated(not a CP) Obviously if you need to get into a park, you need to have it, but once through the gates, forget you have it and keep it to yourself.

Of course, there really isn't much to do anymore on property at night anyway. Better head to citywalk if you want night time entertainment.

Let's put it this way: if you are underage, you shouldn't be drinking period. They can and will find out and you will be termed, ID or no ID. It is illegal and breaking the law off property will get you termed just as fast as on. Really, it's not that fun to not remember what happened and you will be glad of the brain cells when you are older.

I have heard stories of CMs drinking underage on property (Epcot, DTD, DHS) w/ no ID and getting terminated as well as trespassed (cannot return to WDW property ever again). It is NOT worth the risk. Also, remember that you must show your ID anytime you are asked for it, so you should carry it with you on property per the policy manual.

My point was even if you are over 21, you can still be termed for making a drunken fool out of yourself.

Unless "are you a CM" is a standard question asked when there is trouble, I don't understand how they would ever find out you are a CM unless you tell them. yes you have to have a FL license, but Orange County isn't gonna ask you for a Disney ID if you don't tell them you have one.

If you're like me, even when you're not wearing anything that would give you away as a CM, you'll still get stopped.

No, but Orange County shares a lot of information with Disney, and sometimes, they'll even call WDW security and ask if someone is a CM.

I've gotten sub par service for saying I was a CM. I never mentioned it unless I had to show my ID for something, like getting a dscount. And I always put my ID behind the CC when I got handed the check for a meal.

I don't know what it is with guests... I get asked random questions all the time, even if I'm just standing there, holding a drink in my hand, playing on my phone. Do I have a little green light or something that flashes above my head that say "I know everything about the parks"??
The other day I went to Sea World... I just got off work at qdoba, so I had my black jeans and my navy blue work shirt on. I got stopped like 10 times, and had a grandmother start yapping my ear off at dolphin cove. She started asking stuff, and I was like that guy over there is supposed to know everything, maybe you should ask him.

Disney and Orange County cops are buddy buddy. You can get termed for excessive speeding on property too. So I'm sure they just call up Disney security and have the computer's searched for your name.

So even if you're off the clock... don't be stupid on property.

I was wearing my Dopey decision Tshirt hanging around PI one day and people asked me where the mcdonalds was. I had a touristy hat on and a Dopey shirt. Do I look like I live here? I was wearing a Disney shirt, a hat to protect me from the sun, and I think I had my little Disney bag on for touring the parks. I try to blend in like a tourist, but no matter what, I get pulled out.

You can always tell CMs in a park though. They walk very quickly in a very specific direction. They don't lollygag around look at maps. I love people watching hehe

True... or they are the total opposite and they are just hanging out when there is no real reason to be (ie: no parade about to start or show going on) and the average tourist would wonder why on earth they aren't running to get the next fast pass or trying to fit absolutely everything into 3-7 days :goodvibes I love people watching, too!!

I always hate listening to people whine about wait times in the off season... it's like dude if you were here in the middle of summer you'd be in line for 3hrs, be glad it's only 30-45mins for soarin.

Sometimes I have to refrain myself from speaking up when people say stupid things too. I was sitting at Pecos listening to this lady talk to the rest of her family (i'm guessing she comes a lot more often than the people she was with because she was planning everything).
"so we're gonna go on POC, then Carpets. Walk thru the castle to get to Peter Pan. Then go over to Tomorrowland. You guys can take the little ones on buzz or something, but there's no way I'm skipping Space Mountain this time." And she kept going on and on about having to ride space mountain. Which is fine and dandy if it wasn't the middle of summer time and the ride has been under refurb for a few months already.

While I was there during the refurb, I kept hearing people say stuff like that. I felt bad at first, and then just said to myself, "If only they would have done their research..." And kept on going.

Thanks for all the important information!

I was in Hollywood Studios today by myself and people just looked at me like I worked there for some reason... you can indeed spot a CM.:rolleyes1
