This may seem like a really silly question, but here goes...I have an 8 yo dd and I wanted to get her a frilly, princessy dress to wear on Christmas day because we will be at WDW (not sure which park yet). I was wondering if anyone has done this because I'm concerned about how comfortable she will be. She wears dresses to school with no problems. My other question is, what shoes? Do I put her in matching shoes and hope they're okay, or stick with tennis shoes?

I found a cute Minnie Mouse jumper on ebay I'm considering because I could put a t-shirt if it's warm or turtleneck if it's cold under it and she could wear tennis shoes with it, but it isn't the princess concept I was hoping for. I know she would just love dressing up. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Maybe I should just stick with jeans!

My girls 8 & 5 1/2 want to wear their Muland and Minnie costumes to the MK for CRT. I am going to let them and they are wearing their gym shoes. I am also taking a change of clothes for later if they want to change.

My DD wore a Princess dress all day at MK last month and seemed quite happy. We carried a change of clothes and intended to get a locker if she defrocked!

I'd definately got for comfortable familiar shoes. Perhaps take a long sleeved top to go under the dress as I guess Christmas will be colder than Thanksgiving?!

My dd loves to wear dresses and frequently wears that at WDW -she has worn both summer type dresses and Princess dresses all day. The only thing I would suggest is comfortable footwear, My dd has a pair of sandals that are very comfortable so she wears those or trainers, definitely not smart dress shoes, or those plastic shoes they sell to go with the princess outfits (definitely definitely not the plastic ones)

I know it's not a dress, but this was what my dd wore to the Halloween party - I think you can make out her shoes which were white trainers with pink ribbons in - it seemed a good compromise

I am loving those shoes with the pretty laces!! Great compromise. They could be paired with some frilly socks too. I would definitely go with tennis shoes over dressy shoes. And hey, you could always strip her down and change her entire outfit (down to the underwear) while waiting in line for Dumbo as the folks in line in front of us did!! (Not!!)(That is one for the shocks thread!)

They'd be Europeans then - Depending on the age of my child, I would do that in a quiet corner of the park, but your continental Europeans are even more open about these things and probably never gave it a second thought.

Oh, I love the Jasmine outfit, adorable!! Those kind of shoes would be good with a pair of frilly socks, great ideas!! And it didn't even occur to me to bring a change of clothes, which is strange because I usually bring the kitchen sink in my diaper bag, LOL. I guess it's easier to think of these things with the baby than with the 8 yo. Thank-you all, she will love being a princess for a day, I even found her a Santa hat at Walmart that says "princess" on it (I got my boys Santa hats, too). This will be fun! princess:

I've seen several girls dressed in full princess costumes. I felt really sad once though as a little girl 4-6 was complaining her feet hurt and her mom said "I don't want to hear it, I told you not to wear those shoes".

My little girl is 4 and will insist on wearing a princess outfit including shoes and crown. I will also insist on taking comfy shoes for when her feet hurt and she needs to change.

I say go for the dress but have a back up!

My DD wore only dresses on our first few trips. She would start out the day in whatever shoes matched the dress, but I kept tennis shoes/socks in our backpack to change when she wanted. Not all pretty shoes are uncomfortable, so she may be OK without changing.
