We were offered a chance to upgrade ...

from our 2 adjoining category 6 cabins (family of 6) to 1 category 2 cabin. I got a phone call from DCL today to let me know that a cat. 2 opened up on our Dec. 13 Eastern Magic cruise and we could have it..... for an additional $6800! (Our 2 cabins didn't cost that much together) Needless to say... we will be staying in our 2 cat. 6 unless when it gets a little closer to our sailing date they decide to upgrade us out of the goodness of their hearts!

Sounds like a real bargain. Was this supposed to be a deal for you? Does DCL gennerally offer upgrades for rack rate?

They made us a similar offer for our June 2003 cruise. I had 2 cabins booked, a category 11 and 6 under the FL resident
rate of alittle over $5,000. They called and offered us a suite at the rate of $12,000! I politely declined!

This seems to be happening a lot lately, DCL calling and "offering" an upgrade, for a ton of money. I don't know why they do this unless you request to be put on a list incase a certain cat opens up??? Wonder why they are doing this all of a sudden....

Did you ever express interest in a Category 2? Were you waitlisted for a Category 2? That is strange that they would call and offer an upgrade out of the blue - very unusual. However, I could understand if you had asked for a price originally or expressed interest in a price and had it waitlisted.

I would never imagine one of them opening up! Good thing they didn't call me as my husband would probably divorce me as I said "sure I'll take it"

I think we must have been waitlisted... I had asked someone at DU to check on the price for me and she said there weren't any available at the time.

Our cruise-only rate for the 2 cat. 6 rooms was a little less than $6K (we got the special military discount), so I certainly was not prepared to pay more than 2x that so we could all be in one room. Perhaps one day....
