We were having lunch at the Tusker House just before going on the Safari at about 1:30PM where we met up with Louie and Baloo from the Jungle book. We got pictures and autographs and played along with them a little. Baloo was grabbing and hiding my daughters stuffed dinosaurs they won in Dinoland. Louie was pointing to me and giving me hugs. The character handler asked if we were going to the parade. I replied no, we saw the parade on Friday and we are actually leaving the park to go back to our resort after the Safari. Louie put his head in his hand and started crying. The handler said, are you sure you cant stick around? Louie really wants you to see the parade. Like an idiot, I put my arm around him and said, I know but we saw you on Friday and it was great but we will be leaving soon. Meantime my wife is poking me in the ribs because she can sense something is going on. I am, of course, oblivious. How about if I said you could be IN the parade, then would you stay? I felt like an idiot. Oh, yes of course we would be honored.
So, we got to go back stage with 3 other families. It was very interesting being back there. I wont go into details but I will comment that as Minnie was walking by Mickey before getting into the floats, she gave him a huge hug and kiss and they did a little dance. It was so cute. Each family was given an outfit and hat to go with the section they were in. We were given silly green and red vests to wear and since we were in Goofy section, we wore Goofy hats with red nose and antlers. A cast member helped us into our own float right in front of Goofys float. She took our picture with a disposable camera and then gave it to us to keep and to take pictures along the parade route. At 3:45PM we were off. It was a pretty amazing experience seeing the thousands of people out on the streets watching the parade and waving to us. At the end I asked my 6 and 9 year old daughters if they had fun. My youngest turned to me and said my mouth hurts from smiling for so long. Hmmmm, mine definitely did too!!
