have never laughed so hard in my life, we were hit with a virus that was not a virus it was some sort of purity virus check.

It seems my little problem child, IE the youngest of the team that keeps turning her firewall and virus scanner off to get more speed, did it to us again.

She did not downloaded any file that contained virus, but she did get some strange program called purity-scanner a save your soul program, and all she did was visit a website that started the whole thing. This program spreads onto your network loads itself, then scans your computer for any porn IE pictures or websites that it considers to be porn or bad. Well it sat here all night scanning computers, so this morning NOT ONE Single computer was found to be clean and all were pretty much loaded with porn.

Everybody that logged on this morning got a message saying that they needed to save their soul and repent now. Some were okay with it, some freaked out thinking this was it they had been caught and the time was at hand to repent.

The program though not malicious was a pain in the butt, it scanned your computer and if it found anything at all that it considered bad you got a warning followed by pop ups every three minutes or so from various religious sites or sites trying to sell you programs to clean this program... Ironic isn’t it. There was no porn but even the Dizpins cookie was considered to be a bad evil cult icon. :rollin Heyyyyyyyy you think :hmm naaaaaaaaaa!!!!

We cleaned up our computers, convinced the employees that they were not going to go to purgatory, and got rid of it once and for all, but it took all morning to do. It kept trying to move from PC to PC, we finally had to unplug all the PC's from the network and run the Spybot programs.

So if you think your safe because you dont download anything, think again… it’s at the point now were just visiting a site can get you.

So Ed (you ask) what can we do to save ourselves, and protect our computers, since this is our link to the pin information we need on a daily basis to survive. I mean OMG if I loose my PC for even a day I’ll be lost and prone to fits of anxiety.

Fear not pin folk there is an answer……

You can download two programs that will scan your PC, and fix any problems caused by spyware… The first one is called Spybot search and destroy. It is free (yea!!! more pin money) but in my opinion not as good as the second which is called Spybot Xoftspy. The second one scanned after the first and found all sorts of stuff the first one left behind, but then its also $29.00 but that does include free updates for life, or until the company is gone that is.

So try them both, the first is a little funky to play with, but pretty easy, and did I mention it was free…

After you decide which one to keep, remove one or the other or both, don’t leave unnecessary programs sitting on your computer running in the background, it will slow you down. Especially programs like these that want to run all the time.

Also please be careful, last time I mentioned this I had a bunch of would be PC experts offering this program, and that program that they got from here or there. Try one or two don’t load 20 spybot programs and then wonder why your PC quit working.

If I were you, I would download the second spybot first, it’s easy to work, and shows you what you got plain and simple. Then download the first one since it’s a bit harder to work, but it’s free. The second program is only a free scanner it will not clean unless you pay.

Try it let me know what you find, you’ll be surprised. The record was sales they had 127 spyware programs running, over 34 cookies considered bad. And over 20 programs that nobody had a clue to.

Haleluyah, brother!!!!!...Repent now and give up that condo in Hades!...not you Chas!
By the way Spybot is way cool, free and the kid that invented it takes donations to run it!....he's in Germany I think!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :bounce::Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

I prefer Spy Sweeper from Webroot www.webroot.com/wb/products/spysweeper/index.php. The program costs $30, but you can download a 30 day free trial which will scan and remove spyware.

I find Spy Sweeper to be superior to Spybot S&D. However, like virus scanners, no single spyware scanner will find all spyware. Therefore to get a thorough scan you need to use two spyware scanners. The second scanner I use is Spybot S&D.

Oh yeah, I'm serious about the virus scanners. Norton's and McAfee can leave a lot of viruses behind, don't give them your 100% trust. I have scanned a hard drive with Norton's, unconvinced I have rescanned with Panda or AVG and found a lot of viruses left undetected.
