we have a August UY. How important is it to get the same UY?
What the difference if we do Sept, OCT or even April ,June.
We go to WDW in May and OCT mostly and DEC and FEB sometimes.
we own at BWV. :goodvibes

Some people here, Doc is one, I think, have different UY...we don't and even when we bought resale we went with our March UY.

If you buy the same UY, you can have all of the points in one contract so when you go on the DVC member site, you can see all in one screen, I don't think that's the way it is with different UYs. If you have different UY's you could not book a night that combines both contract points without transferring points from one to the other, but you could book whole nights with each contract and have them linked.

If you're good about keeping different banking deadlines straight you may be better off buying a different UY with your different month travel plans. With our March UY, I do worry a bit about our travel in November, December and January, since those are outside the banking window.

We had placed a bid on a different UY, but backed out when it was rejected, the broker was surprised I didn't want to "negotiate" but between that time and the time I placed the offer, I decided not to get a different UY. I do not feel organized enough to make it work.

We have 2 different UY's and they do show up on the same page when you log into the member website. That's a nice plus I wasn't expecting and is actually how I knew we had closed on our resale contract!

One of the new plusses of different UY with the new waitlist policy should be that you could have two waitlists for each membership for a total of four if you have different reservations going at the same time.

Otherwise there are the different bank deadlines, not as easily combining points (need to transfer) although I'll just make reservations for full days from each UY.

There were two main reasons I decided to have two UY's. First is that b/c of my job, aging parent etc I have ended up having to cancel/reschedule vacations at times (it's not the norm, but has happened enough that it's a consideration) so I prefer to schedule w/ points that won't be outside my banking deadlines.

Second, we use points at both DL and WDW and have different preferred travel times to each location - which of course don't fit in one UY. And then of course we found a resale that was just what we were looking for.

There are negatives, but in some cases there are plusses and for us the benefits outweighed concerns about banking and booking from different UY's.

If you have more than one Use Year it will not really be an add-on since it will have a separate member number and separate account. You would be able to transfer points from to the other (using your one-transfer-per-year for both accounts) and you will have separate banking deadlines to track. We have 4 different contracts with 4 different Use Years at 2 different resorts and it has worked well for us. We often have reservations made using multiple contracts and all linked together by MS so we don't need to move or check in multiple times.

If you do purchase a resale with the same Use Year (the resort does not matter) I would contact MS (probably Member Accounting/Quality Assurance) to have them combine it as a sub-contract of your other master. The deed will need to be titled exactly the same as the master contract to do this, but the end result will be a little easier to manage. If it is a different Use Year it is still very manageable though and allows for travel at various times of the year without much concern should you need to cancel.

Enjoy! :)
