We suprised the kids, DD10 and DS6, last night we are going to WDW Oct 15-22. The were excited, but not the way I thought they would be. We sent the a decoder list and a secrete code with GPS coordinates so we could find the next clue, like Goecaching (for more info see www.geocaching.com it is like a treasure hunt) anyway the last location was the Disney Store. They wallked in and the staff had a package waiting for them. The kids had no idea until they read the note that told. My DD got real red in the face and DS just stared with disbelief. I asked them why they didn't get really excited and hoop and hollar, but my DD said,"Daddy we were in the mall and I can't do that." Silly me. Anyway they also got really wound up over the plane trip.
It was a great time!!! And it is our first family trip. I am very excited!!!!!

That's great! Congrats! We don't get to go for another year yet. I'm so glad you went ahead and told your kids. My cousin waited until the morning of, then woke them, and away they flew. They didn't get much time for it to sink in, or to get excited.

Have fun!

Just don't fall into the trap of wanting a trip SOOOO perfect that it's bound to be a disappointment. Things go wrong inevitably and the best thing to do is roll with the punches. That's the most important thing I've learned after 21 years of marriage and four kids (now 19, 17, 11, and 6).

I can't count the number of times I've planned the perfect day to have DH or one of the kids do something to make the plan fly out the window. It doesn't bother me as much anymore, though I still get disappointed.

Thats terrific Eric.

I love family trips, Have lots of fun, take lots of pictures and remember to take turns with the "what do you want to do today".

Taking a midday break and visiting the pool every afternoon is a great way for all to unwind and while waiting in line for the slide or just floating around is a great time to talk about what they liked the best so far today.

Been there on the perfect day and yes rest will work thanks for your input!!!!!
Eric
