Cayla and I went out shopping today, we noticed her truck making strange noises, but nothing we could put our finger on (both of us are pretty good at car things). So we're driving along (Rt 17 for Tony and others that know the area) and all of a sudden we hear the distinct noise of a belt gone bad. We pull into a lot, the smell is horrible now...burnt rubber. We look up and smoke is billowing out of the engine compartment. :scared: So we open the hood and FLAMES......OMG girly girly freak out by me :scared1: (momentarily anyway), before I call 911. Flames were in 3 locations in the front section. Not very fully engulfes but flames a fire nonetheless. We then get our purses and personal items out and find bottles of water. We douse the fire, afterall we are woman hear us roar.....well more like PO'd grumples. PD and FD show up, flames all out. But there is a bug puddle of antifreeze and ball bearings under the truck. The FD does their thing (disconnect the battery incase it was electrical) and we call for a tow. Then Cayla calls the repair place......definitely NOT a girly girly at this point...she was PO'd she jsut had the belt and radiator replaced 3 weeks ago. We get flat-bedded and pile into the tow truck...Her phone rings, it's her work partner who asks "Do you tip tow truck drivers"...she's like..HUH. Turns out he is on the same highway and sees her truck on the tow bed. So needless to say, we have had a eventful day. But we are taking my car and going out to finish our shopping....WHY becuase it is every womans right to stimulate the economy!! We wont know the extent of the damage until Monday. But hoping it is something that went wrong with the recent repair and they'll be no to little costs involved. And as I type this I am hacking into a neighbors unsecured wireless netwrok (tsk tsk) because Cayla's internet connection is down replaced the modem and the net isn't working but TV is....Grrrrrrrr. I think I need a adult beverage soon. If I didnt mention it, car fires scare me..but we are all safe, just shaken up a bit.

:grouphug: I am so glad that both of you are ok!

As for car fires freakin' you out, I can totally understand from experience. My first wreck involved having the engine catch on fire and we were trapped inside the car with no easy way out! :scared1: So, I feel ya'!

I hope that this all gets worked out for free. It sounds like some one messed up big time. Have an adult beverage or two, or three....:rolleyes1

:grouphug: Seriously, glad to know that you are both safe. :)

On rt 17, on a Saturday??? Glad you girls are OK and good enough to go back shopping! :rotfl:

Now for the adult beverage - name your poison! :)

Gee...it sounds like you have luck like me!

I hope the car repair is related to the fire (it may be hard to 'prove' esp if you took it back to the same garage, they may 'find' another reason for hte fire just so they don't have to pay) and they take care of it all.

HUGS!

Cayla checking in here - just to finish out this crazy tale.

The truck made it to the repair place, Tiggr33 spent the next day being the driver (I could get used to this!)...Sunday we finished the stuff we had started on Saturday and headed to bed. On Monday the phone rings bright and early. For those who haven't read my posts - I work nights 7p-7a...a 9am phone call is the middle of the night as far as Im concerned.

The repair place tells me the repair will be about 500.00 - for pulleys, fluids, a belt and host. I have no real choice but to authorize it. After speaking to a good friend (of Tiggr's) who is a mechanic - we decided that the repair place needed to show some culpability for this mess. We had dodged any fines and tickets thanks to professional courtesy, but still - this could have been really ugly.

When the truck was ready we go to pick it up - I basically tell them they should have realized the pulleys were going and told me about it. If I had made an informed decision to not make that repair - well so be it on my head. Nope, they just didn't tell me about the possibility at all.

So, they tell me no labor. I get home....the invoice shows labor for part of the job. Now a call to Amex and I am disputing the labor charges....this will NEVER end......

Tony - even worse - we had braved Secaucus!!!!! Lenox outlet....lots of good buys were had. We were in East Rutherford, on 17 North....good thing I know lots of people!

Lennox outlet?! :scared1: OOOOO! I might brave Seacaucus! A bit of a drive for me though.

Have had an engine fire. NOT fun at all. Ended up with the car being totaled. So not happy.

Good that it all worked out for you. ::yes::

Well - how far away are you? I have a coupon (good for another couple of weeks) for an additional 25% off everything (including sale items) We got 3 Dept 56 houses (one mickey) for under 100...worth the fire I guess!

Haven't been to the Lenox outlet or any of those outlets in a while - but we have been there! Sorry about the $$$ - but you guys are OK - that's the main thing.
