I drove up to Champaign (IL) yesterday with the kids to hit the Gymboree and as we were driving home it started to get a little nasty. Nothing major for us but there was some thunder/lightning. We were kind of in a pocket of nice weather and there was nasty to the west and east. Then I noticed that there were quite a few people pulled off of 57 staring to the west. So I look over and there is a tornado! My daughter (who is petrified of tornadoes) saw it and immediately started shaking and crying (even though it was about 2 big farm fields away). My son (3) didn't help when he started saying "We're all out of extra lives...we're going to die!" (he equates most life situations to a video game
).
So we turn and start going east and to the north it was black and was saw ANOTHER tornado. This one was breaking up but you could see the dust it stirred up on the ground and it rotating back up. The DJ on the radio confirmed the one we saw off of 57 as a tornado.
Even though it definitely got my blood pumping, it was pretty cool to see.
