on the way to church today! It was the first one I'd ever seen. My city is no Chicago or LA, but it's, I think, the second largest city in Kentucky.

It was just a surprise. I didn't know before if I'd be able to tell one from a dog, but this was definitely no dog.

We have a pack of coyotes that run around behind my house in the woods. The kids and I usually watch them from the hot tub. This is why all my pets, are indoor pets.:)

They are very common here also and our cats are never allowed outside. They scare me, even tho I know they generally will not stalk a full grown person they have been known too. I have some friends who invested in a Great Pyranese dog to keep the coyotes off their property after a coyote attempted to drag their small ****zu dog away by his neck. Dog was okay but that is what spurred the purchase of Itsy Bitsy the 150# pure white dog.

Seeing them around here during the daylight is unusual, dawn and dusk is when I see them the most often.

Maybe your coyote wandered away from where his pack hangs out which is why you saw him in your city. If their food source has been depleted due to fire, severe winter etc... they will roam in search of food and small domestic animals fit the bill.

We went to the 11:30 service, so it was a little after 11. He was all alone (at least I didn't see any others) and it was in an area that has recently been cleared and is being developed. I think there was some wooded area behind it.

I see them at dusk, too. When I go for a walk at that time, I carry a baseball bat. Just in case.

We've got bunches of them and hear them howl all the time. But I have honestly never been attacked by one. Ever.
