There was a thread awhile ago that asked people what they thought was the best type of bag to bring to Disney. Someone said that they wore "geeky vests" with tons of pockets. That sounded great to me because I own about 20 bags and none of them met my requirements for the "perfect" bag.

I found vests for DH and myself. DH was totally against the idea but he said he would try it. Honestly, it was the greatest thing. We could fit everything into them for ourselves and the kids. They weren't heavy at all. They were perfect. They look like the vest the Croc Hunter wears. DH even hinted he might wear the vest for some other activities we attend. I, of course, laid down the law that those vests are reserved for Disney only where looks don't matter!

So, to the poster who told me about the geeky vests, thanks so much. I highly recommend them to others that are still searching for that perfect thing to hold all your stuff.

Sounds like maybe it's the kind that fishermen would wear.?. :confused3

I guess you could do that and add Disney patches to it and make it an "Official" Disney vest! :goodvibes

They can also be purchased @ DTD in the Pin Trader shop. That's where DW & I got ours! :goodvibes

Our trip is coming up in 12 days, and I, too, had read that thread about the vests.

In years past, I've done a fanny pack, as well as a backpack, and never really liked either one.

I went ahead and bought a 'geeky vest' online, and I can't wait to use it!

My DH looked at me like I was nuts, but I think deep-down, he's in AWE of my ingenuity (he just can't admit it!)

I have mine decorated with my favorite Disney pins; I have a couple of clips added to hold more things (if needed); each pocket has a necessity (such as ziploc bags for the water rides, aspirin, etc).

This is going to be so nice to have my hands free! And not worrying about where to store the backpack on each ride!

(As far as water bottles - we carry the Brita Fill & Go, and use a lanyard bottle holder).

Where did you find your "geeky vests"?

DH and I have "Photographer Vests" from Banana Republic. We bought them several years ago on clearance for around $30 (retail had been closer to $100), but I'm not sure they carry these anymore. I did a quick online search for that brand and didn't find them. But I did find several other sources for similar items by internet search for terms: "photographer's vest, fisherman's vest, safari vest".

We have used these at Disney before, and though they were adding a layer of cloth that made heat :sad2: , it was tolerable when we were there last (early) June, and they were VERY handy! You might look for some that come in lighter weight material, or even mesh. DD8&8 also have little "photo vests" from Gap Kids (also bought on clearance last year, again, not sure available). I prepack the vests with most of the little stuff specific to the parks before we go, then add water bottles, room keys, etc. later.

I propose that those of us who love them block out the "geeky" label, even though it's closer to the truth than we like :rotfl2:

Good luck finding something that works for you. :wizard:

The link provided above doesn't show a pic of the vest, it just gives you a option to search the site. Anyone have a pic?

I tried the link above and went to Men's--> Specialty--> Outerwear--> Travel Vest to see the picture.

Another term to search to find them online might be "cargo vest". Ebay had several under Banana Republic Photographer Vest search, might have more under other names as well.

Thank you, I'm the dad carrying everything all the time, so this might be just what I need to make my day more pleasant.

Must wear "Ugly" shoes (ie crocs) with "geeky" vests! And then you'll know the true Disney adventurers! :rotfl2:

DH and I also complete our ridiculous ensembles by keeing our two-way radios attached to the outside little flap on the shoulders of the vests. We look like we are Police Academy rejects! :rotfl:
