We need water!!

This is our first trip to WDW. I have an eight year old who takes a medication that makes her dehydrated. She needs to drink a lot of water during the day. What is the best way to keep her hydrated? Can you carry in a water bottle and is water readily available to refill it?

You can carry a water bottle and you can refill it throughout the parks. I think we brought or own bottled water in the last time I went.

Water is everywhere in the parks , you can bring it in or there are plenty of areas throughout the parks you can buy it. There are also water fountains,
but Orlando water is scary!! We brought water in but when it was
gone filled it with regular water and used the Crystal Light Sticks found at
Target, usually lemonade ones. This makes the water taste great, even I would drink it, alot cheaper than 2.50 bottled water that you have to buy.

In May 2004 we stayed at the WL villas and had a small refrigerator. We brought bottled water from home and froze them in the freezer. Each day we took 5-6 bottles in the bottom of our stroller. That way we always had COLD water to drink.

There are water fountains everywhere and they are usually in the shad as well which means the water is nice and cool.

I never seem to pass one without having a good slurp.

The cheapest/lightest alternative to drinking fountain water is a self-contained filter water bottle, which will kill the unpleasant taste/odor of the local water. The version of these made by Brita is very nice, with a wide mouth that can be used to add ice. Unfortunately, Brita has recently discontinued these bottles, but you can still find them on closeout sometimes, and they are often still available through Ebay. It was called the Brita Fill n' Go bottle. We have several, and find them invaluable at theme parks. (We also use them locally at 6 Flags, where they don't allow outside bottled water, but they don't have any objection to an empty bottle.)

Pur also makes a portable filter sports bottle; it's also available through web resources.

We thought the water was really bad, had a really bad taste to it in our
opinion. Found out after we got back it has high sulfur content. It might
not taste bad to everyone, but we are used to our well water which is very
good, with no aftertaste. The Crystal Light sticks really cut the yucky
taste and made the water good, at least for us.

Being from West Texas you are probably used to scary water....LOL! Reading your name, I'm guessing you are in Odessa? I've had water there....bleh! I grew up in Pecos and we had horrible water. I live in New Mexico now and we usually get our drinking/cooking water from "water machines".

I'm planning on going in late April and taking Brita water bottles. They have a filter in them.

There are bottled water sold everywhere at WDW. They're Dasani water and the small 12oz bottle is $1.25 and 24oz is $2.00

There are also plenty of water fountains around.

Another way if you don't feel like lugging a water bottle is to go up to a counter service restaurant and ask for a cup of water. They will gladly give you a cup (some large some small) of water no charge.

Brita water bottles are another way to go.

I don't think you'll have a problem with finding water. You can even buy water bottle straps ($3.25) so you can carry your water bottle slung over your shoulder.

Orlando area water tastes sulphurous to a lot of people.

Its safe to drink - it isn't scary that way. But if you aren't used to sulphurous water, you may want a Brita bottle or may want to carry your own bottles in, if you don't want to buy it in the parks.

If you do something like Crystal Light, make sure to try it out at home. To me, bad water is preferable to Crystal Light (which is a diet drink powder I know a lot of people do like).

that is what my 5 year old called it when we were there. He sometimes
mixes up words but we thought it was hysterical. Anyway, just thought
I would make sure that you didn't think I was being serious. But the water
is bad and to a 5 year old LOL

We get our water from the Kielder Resevoir in the Northumberland national Park on the border between England and Scotland.

Can't say it tastes any different to the water from the WDW fountains.

Personally think bottled water is an over priced scam. Nothing wrong with tap water.

I had the same problem when I was about 8 years old due to medications I was on. I would drink a ton of water all the time and still become dehydrated until my family found this powdered stuff called "Emergen-C" It contains vitamin C and other stuff that helps you stay hydrated. You can buy them at health food stores such as Akins. They are sold in boxes that contain little packets that you can add to your water bottle. I now don't go anywhere without it.

We live in Lamesa and yes our drinking water is nasty! We have reverse osmosis in our home which helps. We are so excited about our trip in May and look forward to a great time. Thanks for your reply.

don't know if anyone else mentioned this, but you can go to any quick service food place in the parks and ask for a cup of ice water, for free. personally i always bring a big bottle, like one of those arizona or gatorade bottles, and keep it filled at the water fountains. i live in philly, so compared to here orlando water is a gourmet delicacy

I highly recommend buying a water bottle holder with a strap to carry over the shoulder. My dd has always been a big water drinker and likes to have a water bottle w/her at all times. In the parks when walking all day it's much easier to have a strap then carry a bottle around. We have purchased several holders w/straps. They usually come with a water bottle, but most water bottles (Dasani, Aquafina, Evian, etc...) fit in them, especially the stretchy holders.

My family always gets "sick" after drinking FL water for a couple of days. I use bottle water for our coffee makers while we are there also. I always thought my DD was getting the "bug" until it dawned on us it was the water. None of us have been sick since. If I was computer literate I would post a link to another post recently about the FL water and people getting sick. You may want to second gues using the fountains alot IMHO.
