The prize goes to my DH's "friend" Rob!

First let me say, that I can't stand this guy and DH has known him since college. They went to school together and have ended up working for the same employers.  Rob has no tact whatsoever in social situations, he's always been that way. I often wonder if it's really because he doesn't know how to behave in social situations or if he enjoys tearing people down with his acidic remarks.

On to my point... one of my DH's co-workers is in the Army Reserve and yesterday was his last day at work. He is either going to Guantanamo or the Gulf, he doesn't know. Anyway, he sent an email to his co-workers letting them know, which included his email while he is away. Rob's response to him, "Yeah, we'll keep sending you emails to see if you are still alive".

This guy is leaving his family and putting his life at risk to defend our country and our freedom, who knows how long he will be gone.

In the meantime, Rob The Wuss (he IS a wuss) gets to go to back to his family everyday and not worry about having to put his life on the line. His biggest concern is being home to watch Buffy! :mad: What an a@@@@@e!!

What a thoughtless and tactless remark! I agree, he wins.

What a jerk. He reminds me of my BIL. When my Dad died unexpectedly, he didn't come to the funeral, send a card or call.

Meanwhile, I left him repeated messages to assure him that we still wanted to go ahead with a planned visit that he and his GF made to stay with us.

When I finally got him on the phone close to two weeks after the funeral, I asked if he had gotten my messages. His response, "oh yeah, sorry about your Dad."

It's been 7 years, and he will never, ever set foot in my home again.

I know someone like that. Seriously lacking in social graces. Finds it acceptable to use acidic words. Reminds me of a saying my Grandmother has:

"Some people were obviously raised in a barn"

You wonder about their parents, and their parenting skills.

has anyone ever challenged him on his STUPID remarks??? Or is he the kind of guy that likes the confrontation anad that's why he says what he says?? If he's not, I think it would be intersting to see what his reaction would be if someone expressed to him how inappropriate that remark was!

I know LOTS of people like this! I point blank tell them how rude and inconsiderete they are and walk away! IDIOTS!!

I really don't know what to say to that except, ubelievable!!! I truly would love to know what went through his mind when he decided to say that

I would truly like to slap his face!! That man is leaving his family! UUGGHH!! I can not say what I think of that on this board!

So, Sad...that people can be such IDIOTS!!!

I knew someone like that a few years ago. He suddenly stopped being such a jerk when someone smashed in his front teeth after one of his "witty" comments.

As I said, I can't tolerate Rob. DH has told him MANY times how inappropriate his comments are, as well as other people. He has a reputation at work for this and isn't well liked. He has NO friends, other than DH. Yet, he doesn't seem to make the connection...

DH found out what Rob had said when he went to say good-bye to his co-worker, he told DH all about it. DH thanked him for protecting and defending our country, he said he appreciated that because he didn't hear those words very often. :(

Hopefully, the positive comments and good wishes made a greater impact on DH's co-worker than Rob's comment did. When I think about, Rob's comment only reflected badly on himself, no one else. I still think he is jerk!

If I had been DH's co-worker, I would have emailed Rob back and said: "Yes, well....... I gave the Military your name, address, and email addy so in case something does happen to me, you are to be my replacement!"

Quite honestly, it sounds as though Rob is severely lacking in interpersonal skills and doesn't know what to say - so he thinks he's being witty and charming and in acuality - he's coming off as a total schmuck and should really just keep his big mouth shut!

I've never understood people like that :(

I'm glad your husband told his coworker that he appreciated him, that's got to take some of the sting away from that other guy's thoughtless comment. This other guy thinks he's very witty, doesn't he? I know people like that :(
