Our trip. My mother-in-law has been sick, and we are re-thinking the wisdom of going on vacation right now. She was supposed to have surgery in Oct., but came down with a touch of pnumonia and broncitus (sp?), and just can't shake it. She was going to have her carotid arteries scaped (well only one, they can't do the other one). At this point she is at high risk for having a stroke, so basically is a walking time bomb.
It is very hard on my husband, because he has to travel for work, and he had to deal with being away and flying back and forth when his dad was dying.
The adult in me knows it is the right thing to do at this point, but the kid in me is so disappointed. There is always next year, and I am hoping that PBH will just roll my deposit over to another time.
Oh well that's life right?

I'm sorry so to hear your sad news. I wish you mil all the best. As for your trip there's always another time. If you want them to roll your deposit just throw some new dates at them and I'm sure they can do that for you. I will miss you I was looking forward to hooking up at the gelato bar with you. Let us know how things go.

Margie:

I've been in your position more times than I can tell you....

The one thing I always remember is what someone told me once on these boards... Orlando and all it offers will ALWAYS be there, our loved ones will not.

In fact, I had this week off to go to DIS CON but I cancelled when my Mom died... :(

I do believe in prayer, though, my friend, and I will pray for your dear MIL's health and peace for your entire family.

As much as I'd love to meet with you and yours this New Year, I know how important family is.

God bless

Thank you for your kind words. This is the unfortunate part of being middle age (did I just say that LOL!!!!!), we have to deal with the difficulties and struggle of seeing our parents get old, and visa versa.
On a positive note: We celebrated my grandmother's 96th birthday this weekend! She is still able to take care of herself (shower, light cooking etc..), is always concerned about her appearance keeping her hair styled wearing nice clothing, and has the memory of an elephant. I love to hear her stories about growing up in New Mexico.
When my mother-in-law had her heart attack (they did not think she was going to survive) I sat with my father-in-law in her room for hours, and heard so many stories about their life together and his life growing up. I guess the moral of my tale here, is to take time and listen and ask questions especially of the elderly. They are a wealth of knowledge and interesting stories.

Amen, Margie!

Yes, MIDDLE age, yes, I said and LIVE it, is definitely being in the MIDDLE! I'm now between a 9 yo boy and a 83 yo Dad, 36 years down and 36 up from each one, and have to split my attention and love between the two of them and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Kudos for Grandma! You GO, girl!

Hang in there, okay?
