We were on our may to Barnes &Noble tonight. I was driving and having fun with the family. When the light turned green, our lane didn't move. We were in the inner lane and I couldn't move to the center lane to go around. I decided that we could get to the store if I took the longer way and turned left in the turn lane. We passed what we thought was a stalled car (the van behind me cut in front it this car) and saw a man slumped over. The light was red and my DH and I looked again and I said that he must have had a heart attack. (After I asked for God's help with this) My DH jumped out of the car to see if he was OK. The mini van lady jumped out too with her cell. DH goes over to the car and touches the guy and slightly nudges him.
Another guy (yellow shirt) from two cars behind comes to the car also. mini van lady calls 911. The light turns green and I U turn into a vacant gas station. The guy in the car starts moving slightly and so does the car. My DH leans into the car and puts it into park. Yellow shirt and my DH try to get him to drive over to where I am and let him know that help is on the way. He then tries to drive off but there is too much traffic (end of rush hour).
DH and yellow shirt start walking to other cars asking them not to leave because there is a drunk guy trying to leave. We don't know if he was drunk but that made everyone stay where they were. DH said the guy told him that he was just tired but DH smelled alcohol on his breath. DH told him what we saw. Yellow shirt guy was directing traffic while DH talked to the guy to keep him calm.
The police arrived and parked behind me. He brought the guy to the front of his car and held up his index finger. This is when we decided that it was time to go on our way to the bookstore. This was also a perfect time to explain to our children about being very aware of your surroundings especially in a car.
To the mini van lady, yellow shirt guy, Jeep lady, Mustang man, and the two biker dudes I thank you for helping us keep this guy off the road to potentially hurt someone.
On our way home, an hour later, the guy's car was parked in the vacant gas station where I was parked.
I can tell my mom tonight,"Yes mom, I have justified my exsistance today."
Happy Thoughts to all,
