We checked in at VWL on Friday Oct. 10. We arrived at noon via Tiffany Towncar, which was fabulous. When we checked in we were told, "We do not have a room available that meets your requests, you can choose from what is available now or wait until a room meeting your requests opens up later."

We had requested a non-smoking pool view. We asked where the rooms were located that were ready and she told us/showed us on a map. We chose a 1st floor facing the lodge, room 1502. I was surprised to notice that is was a dedicated studio. We loved it! There was an exit door just outside the room door, which made it very convenient when leaving and coming home. I had thought we would be walking through the lobby, then down to the end of the hall. Not much of a walk anyway, but that side door was so convenient.

I love the way the new room ready works. We could have waited for a pool view, but we really did not care. There will be trips with all of the family that I would rather wait and hopefully get our requests honored, but an early check-in was worth a lot!

We had a wonderful trip and loved the new Wishes firework display. We were quite impressed as it barely started to drizzle before and during the fireworks, then about 1 minute after the show ended, the sky opened up and we were drencehed. We have not figued out how Disney was able to hold off the rain until the show was over! I guess the magic of Disney!

Thanks so much for posting your VWL checkin experience. I've got another thread going right now asking about recent experiences. Sounds like you had a good trip!

Thanks for the info. We will be doing our first room ready experience in a couple of months at the VWL and hope it goes as well as your's did.

When we checked in 10/8 at OKW, she told us "our room" (preassigned?) was not available. I asked if there was something available ( I know rooms aren't ready until 4:00 pm, but we had been up since 4:15 am and the other three times checking in we were able to get a room right away, anyway ,,,). The CM said no.
So we waited until about 3:30 pm before "our room" was available. It was worth the wait, in bldg 14, right across from HH, close to bus stop, etc.
But I do like it when there is a room available. I'm not picky about view, floor, etc. Just non-smoking.
Anyway, that was our experience.

Do they tell you which room your "preassigned" room is so you can determine whether it's "worth" waiting for?

I'm glad to hear of experiences with the new policy. I'm looking forward to the experience, and hope to better our last check-in readiness of 4:30 (after starting at 10:30 in the morning).

Granny, no the CM did not tell us where the room was. We had asked for non-smoking, so request were few (only one!) After we had done other things for most of the afternoon, and returned to OKW, the manager (?) sent someone over to the room to see if it was ready. He said it was close by. We loved the room, except it was a non-elevator building and three flights of stairs (36 to be exact!) sure did strengthen my thighs!
