WOW! We just love OKW!

We own at SSR and have also stayed at BWV and VWL. I've read the posts about the extra space (we're in a 1BR) and I've seen the pictures but I guess I couldn't appreciate it until I actually saw it. And boy did we get lucky with our room assignment.

We arrived on Saturday via Magical Express, which went perfectly for us. The only request we had was for a non-smoking room. While I had read reports about good and bad rooms, we decided to just go with the flow and didn't make any other room or building requests. When we checked in, the room that had been assigned to us wasn't ready. The CM said "Let's see if there is anything ready". She had rooms in buildings 42, 39 or her personal favorite, building 45. We said, if it's your favorite, we'll take that. We were assigned to room 4521. What a great location, overlooking the waterway to Downtown Disney and so very quiet.

The best part about being assigned this room, is that the woman ahead of us in line was very snotty when she checked in. She told the cast member that there were 4 rooms that she wanted. When the CM told her that those rooms weren't available, she said in a very snotty tone "Well then just give me anything, it doesn't matter." What's wrong with people? Don't they know you get more flies with honey than vinegar? I'm sure she'll be complaining about the terrible customer service she received because she didn't get any of the rooms she wanted.

Well, it worked out well for us. I'm sure if she would have been nicer about it,the CM may have assigned this room to her.

We have a reservation at SSR for this Christmas, but a few more days here in this spacious room and I think I may try to switch to OKW at the 7 month window!

I just looked at a map of OKW and that looks like a great location. We just came back from our first stay at OKW (also in a 1 BR) and we loved it there, too. I totally agree with you that even if you have seen pictures of a 1 BR at OKW, it's something else again to actually walk into your villa and see it for yourself. And don't you just love that big veranda? We really enjoyed eating breakfast out there -- it was such a great way to start the day.

I hope you have a wonderful stay!

I agree that OKW is great. We loved the extra roominess. Just made it more relaxing because you are not as crowded. You are also right about the way some people act. Even when things go wrong, I try to be reasonable and understand that the cm is not trying to make things difficult for us. I always try to treat them with respect and usually you will get that back 100%.

with all of the posts from guests who enjoyed old key west so very much, i'm starting to fear :scared1: that i won't be able to get my annual 1 or 2 br ressie there at 7 mos out!

more posts about mold, please!

seriously - glad you enjoyed the space - okw is our fave resort - bought ssr thru f&f just so we could stay at okw.

Sorry to add to your fears... but we also mae our first booking to OKW for the July 4th week. I have heard so many nice things about the property that it was just to good to pass up the oppertunity (not to mention some point savings).

Forgot to mention that. It really does give you extra living space. It's been a little cool in the morning, but we are able to eat lunch out there.

Last night, we took the boat back to OKW from Downtown Disney and as we went passed SSR, I couldn't help but wish SSR had a veranda like this!

I am so glad to hear of your good experience with OKW. It is my favorite resort. It is so nice to hear from someone with such a positive outlook. :sunny:

Glad you liked our "home"!! SHHHH! ;) I agree that building 45 is a great view! We like all of those buildings along that side of the canal (45, 46, 56, 55). That being said, the only bad view I have had at OKW was in building 29. Not sure I would take that one again.

Isn't it funny!!! We stayed in building 28, where I think the "view" is similar to 29 - and we loved it!!! So quiet, shaded and private!!!!! :teeth:

Glad you enjoyed OKW so much Buzz's Buddy. :goodvibes

Glad to hear you enjoyed your OKW trip. We just returned from our first trip there as owners and are so glad we bought there. We just loved our room in building 21 -- a great golf course view -- but would love to get 45 some time. The views look awesome!

We are owners at SSR and since we have stayed there once we decided to stay at another resort and try them all. DD wanted to try OKW and we did. We loved it also. The 2 bedrooms are huge. And there was just 4 of us there. Couldn't find another family to go with us. Well I'm glad too! The last time at SSR there was 8 of us. So needless to say...we had tons of room. DD laughed when she walked out of the laundry room and went the wrong way. Although I know they are the largest rooms in any resort, I'll miss the space when we go to others. But I can't wait to try out all of the resorts, that's the great part about being a member. Glad you had such a great trip!!!

You're getting me homesick!!!!

9 more days until I get to go HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had that same villa for Thanksgiving in 1999. I believe it was the most perfect view we have ever had. It was my husband's first trip to OKW (I bought in 1994, but he doesn't travel with us very often), and he was very, very impressed. I loved being on the canal, watching the boats, feeding the ducks, etc. Glad you enjoyed your trip!

Bad news/Good news

Although Continental hasn't yet cancelled our flight to Newark, NJ tomorrow, we went ahead and changed our flight rather than risk getting stuck at the airport.

We were going to try to fly home on Monday, but they didn't have 4 seats remaining on any flight.

So, we are now scheduled to return home on Tuesday. Luckily, OKW was able to accomodate us in the same room. Of course, that's 40 points we weren't planning on using this year, but then again, it does give us 2 more days in WDW! :cool1:

I'm with you pb4ugo (and I love the username too!) What about the poor bus service, the run down quality of some of the rooms, and the units near the road? :rotfl: C'mon all you anti-OKW people-- shout'em out if you got'em! More room for me and my REALLY LOUD family! All 17 of us in a 1BR next week :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

It is our home resort but we recently stayed at BCV just for a change.

Boy did we miss home :(

Sorry, no negative posts from here. But something to consider-we were so fearful of not getting a ressie at 7 months, we did (what I call) the "home resort shuffle", so we could get our ressie at 11 months-now we own there.
