We leave tomorrow and I have "stroller" dilemma... help needed!

TJ,

I did not take your post in that way. I was actually responding to bevemjake who was joking about a stroller for a 6 year old. I just don't know how to insert a quote from someone. I am quite helpless with the computer except for just typing words. Notice no smilies or signature.

Oops - now I am embarrased as I totally missed that. See I told you I have to read more carefully!!

Just fyi, to quote just use the box on the right hand bottom. Instead of post reply click on quote and it will open up the posting box with the quote already in your response. The smilies are on the right hand side when you respond to a post, just click one and it inserts where you clicked it. Like this: :earsgirl:

To the OP - two things to keep in mind:1) Bring a stroller/strollers that recline. It is worth a million dollars when your children can take a peaceful and comfortable nap, if they want to and 2) Storage space comes in very useful!!!

I don't know how other people feel, but I would NEVER rent a stroller at the parks. They look so uncomfortable and hard. Also, at the end of the day, you have to return them and then you'll have to carry your tired kids out of the park, back to the hotel room etc. Just something to keep in mind.

After scrolling through this topic, I now have a couple of questions. We are headed to WDW 12/5-11 w/ our 6 & 3 1/2 year old DDs. We are flying and renting a car. We'll be schlepping 2 car seats as well as my husband's golf clubs in addition to our camera/video stuff, suitcases, etc.. Because of the amount of stuff we'll need to take vs. my grand desire NOT to be pack mule, we had planned NOT to take our own strollers. We planned to rent ONE at WDW using the length of stay pass. However, most posters in this line of discussion seem to be pro taking your own stroller and less-than-enamored with WDW rentals.

Should I re-think our plan? Pros or cons either way?

I thought the girls could alternate using the stroller with the 3 1/2 yr. old using it more. Plus, we will going back most days to rest. AND, we started our "walking" regiment to prepare this week.We only took 1 umbrella stroller on our last trip when older DD was only 4, so I thought my plan was workable this time ... but maybe not?????

I bought 2 cheap umbrella strollers w/ a canopy for my 4 & 6 year olds. There's no way I would pay to rent & I know they will be tired & need the stroller towards the end of the day. I have a nice double but since we do not have a car for our upcoming trip & will be relying on bus transport I thought it would be easier to fold & unfold 2 umbrella strollers.

I would probably bring the umbrella strollers so you can use them around your hotel/ marketplace, etc. Then, if you feel the double would work better, rent it for the week. That way you don't have to fold strollers up on the bus.

I was just being snarky about what another person said on the Families board. I have no problem with extended stroller use and intend to rent one for my 7 year old should she need it on this trip. :earboy2:

aaaahhh, and I thought it was about umbrella strollers!

FWIW when my youngest dd was 7 I didn't hesitate to grab a rental for a late night at Epcot. You do things on vacation you don't do at home, like Mickey bars for breakfast.

What happens in Disney stays in Disney?? (ok maybe that's another destination).

SOLUTION!!!!

I just bought the greatest stroller ever. I bought a baby trend sit n stand. Love love love it! We have a DD that will turn 2 two weeks before our trip and a DS that will be 5 two months after. This thing is great... it seems about the size of our Graco glider... a hair longer, but pushes much better. The seat reclines and then it has a jump seat and standing platform for our DS. Bought it at Specialtybaby.com. Just search for "sit n stand". $179- free shipping. A little pricy, but worth the money!!

Take the double. If my four year old sees his 2 year old sister in the stroller he wants to be in it too. It's better to have more room than less.

We're going next month and I plan on having my 4 year old in it most of the time. I'm just not ready for him to walk around on his own and wander off.

This is a great stroller, my girls are 2ys apart and I used it for quite a few years.

That said, I found it very heavy and could not use it on my solo trips to WDW only when dh was around to LUG it. The other problem, and this may have been fixed since my kids were stroller age, was that my older dd could not sit or stand when the younger dd was reclining.

They also now sell an attachment that turns any stroller into a sit n stand so if you have a stroller you like you can just by the attachment. IIRC it is called a buggy board.
