Yesterday morning my DD started with a cold. Today she is all congested and is starting to cough. It never fails that every year in DW she's sick! If it progresses to an infection of any sort and I take her to the Centra clinic in Fla., does anyone know how insurance works with the visit and prescription? We live in CT. and have Connecticare insurance.:confused3

I feel your pain. Just got back from the Doctors office yesterday and DD9 has bronchitis-we leave in 3 days. She had been coughing for a week and it wasnt getting any better. Dr. put her on a z-pack so we will be done with meds the day we leave. I had him check the baby's ears while we were there just in case. She is getting over pink eye and didnt know if that infection could travel to her ears. They were clear, but it seems like everytime we head to Disney someone is getting sick in our family too. Maybe you could contact your ped. and let him know the situation. He may give you something to fill in case things get worse if you go in before you leave.

So sorry- maybe ask your doctor about Cold-eze or something similar to help her get better quicker.

It's a shame that she has been sick on every trip. Do you always go in the winter?

Possible illness is what keeps me from planning a Jan. trip. I'm sick now, DH is just recovering, and DD is fighting off a cold. It seems that colds move through our family every year after Christmas and through Jan. This year has been the worst for DH and I- the worst cold I've had in years but someone seems to be sick every year at this time.

I had this happen once with my son. I went to the doctor the day before we left and he was able to put him on antibiotic for 5 days that did not make him drowsy. The cold was gone by the second day of the trip.

Try using Zicam. My cold is always less severe and goes away a lot faster with Zicam. Hope she feels better soon!

We are not big users of antibiotics or any type of OTC medicine, that being said, I would see if dr could give you a scrpit for something JUST IN CASE it progresses to an infection that needs antibitics.

Blessedby3, our baby is just getting over pink eye too, and we go on the Disney Cruise on Sunday! I hope its all cleared up by then. DH and I have an appt for a couples massage, and this will be the first time we've ever been away from the baby. I'm nervous, and excited!

Sorry, OP, didn't mean to hijack. I do hope your daughter gets better. You could try using echinacea. PM me if you want details. It works and its safe.

With a cold and congestion I would definately take your child to the Doctor the day before you leave to check for an ear infection. You definately DO NOT want to fly with a child who has fliud in their ears, that would be an extremely painful flight for that child.

I would definitely stop at the Ped's before going. I learned the hard way this last trip! Sdd14 had what appeared to be a cold a couple days before we left. By the time we left wdw she was miserable, we were miserable...it went from seeming like nothing to something. The day we got back..bronchitis. I will definitely make sure next time we stop at the dr's BEFORE we go just to make sure we don't need anything. We always drive, so flying doesn't factor in for us but the poor kid didn't have anywhere near a good time most days. She did alot of staying at the resort with dh who seemed to have caught a stomach bug the 2nd day!

I have found the wonder drug for kids with colds!!! My Son came home from school Friday with a terrible fever and was coughing. UUGUGGH!! I called our pediatrician who told me to get children's Mucinex and give him Tylenol for the fever (of course). My DD was also snotting around (yuck) so I gave her some of the Mucinex as well. Both are feeling 100% better! It comes in a liquid or a dissolvable powder that goes right on the tongue. What a rotten time to be sick; I hope this helps.

My doctor always gives me a sample antibiotic for the kids incase. We have a very good relationship and he knows that I would only use it in case of emergency. The one and only time I didnt get one we were in NYC and the Dr. on call for our office wouldn't help. Ended up at the Hospital with DD. Talk to your ped. and see if they are willing to trust you.
