We just had an earthquake.

That was wild. it was only a 2.7 but the house really shook. The epicenter was just about 3 miles away. I don't know how California people can stand it.

That's a sneeze here. SoCal person.

Honestly, you do SORT OF get used to it. We had a long lull with little seismic activity but it's picking up again. All you can do is just be prepared.

But really, we get 2.7s all the time and I never feel them. Needs to be in the 4.0 range and above to even make us look twice. It must have been RIGHT under you for you to feel so much motion.

you should have been in my house when Mexico had their 7 pointer a couple weeks ago....Talk about your house shaking not to mention all the water splashing out of my pool...my pool had big waved in it

We never once felt an earthquake when we spent a week in California. I was intrigued but a little freaked at the thought. Was it scary? I still can't imagine what it feels like.

There sure have been a lot of those lately! Or maybe it just seems that way.

I guess if you're in Ohio and you have a 2.7, you might notice it. I agree, we hardly even notice below 4's, unless we're really over the epicenter.

I'll never, ever forget the Loma Prieta in '89, which was 7.1. The A's & Giants were in pre-game for their World Series game.

I think the construction of most of the buildings in California help offset the feeling of shaking. I mean, I rarely feel anything inside. Outside though is another story.

Oh that must have been a horrible week if you were worried about an earthquake the entire time you were here! We don’t have earthquakes all the time, honestly. Also, they aren’t nearly as bad as hurricanes, tornados etc. I swear!

I wouldn't say that I was really worried and we really had a great week. But you wonder if you don't know, kind of like those who go to Florida wonder about hurricanes hitting.

The quakes we tend to get are nothing compared to a hurricane or tornado...I'd much rather experience a quake. 2.7 is small, but in OH that must have been pretty unexpected which makes it scary. I'm glad it was so small and no one was hurt. My first quake, I'd lived in CA for over a year...it was the big one that caused all the damage to the freeway, that was weird...

I remember when I was 6 or 7, I went to Florida with my grandparents, there was a Tornado warning. I was scared the roof of our hotel would be blown off! I still had a good time though. (We were headed to WDW, so how could I not)

When I was a kid, there was a 3.0 in Ottawa in the middle of the night. It woke us all up, and it really sounded like a freight train. To be honest, it was a really intense experience, although I didn't really find it frightening (there was shaking, but it wasn't SHAKING). But, we were also very close to the epicenter, like you, our house was built on sandy soil, and the earthquake was very shallow.

Here in Chile, sometimes I'll get woken up for a 4.5, but other times I've slept through mid-5s. The depth, the location of the epicenter, and the type of waves propagated make a big difference in how it feels. You do kind of get used to them after a while, though (well, at least any of them smaller than a 7! ).

It's scary all these earthquakes recently, volcanoes erupting, etc. It's why I believe we need to protect and reverence our earth as much as possible.

You must live near me. I felt something but I'm closer to Mentor that Perry. Last summer we had quite a few just north of us under the lake. They're all scary.

Naw, the one up here in SF, that caused the Bay Bridge to collapse and caused all the damage to Candlestick.....that one was bad.
