We have lost Mister Rogers

Ohhh this is so sad. :( Growing up right outside of Pittsburgh, Mr. Rogers was my very favorite. I never missed it when I was little. My next door neighbors knew him and he was everything in real life that he was on his show. He'll be missed.

When you are small and grow up in Pittsburgh, you believe Mr. Rogers is a wonderful local personality. As I grew up I found that he was loved by everyone every where, not just here.

Just a few years back, I attended a Pittsburgh Pirates home opening baseball game. The stadium was full, you see it was sold out. Of course a good time was being had by all. When the time came for the first pitch, to everyone's enjoyment, Mr. Fred Rogers walked out to the mound. A huge cheer resounded through the stadium. But what came next was truly amazing. Mr. Rogers proceeded to remove his jacket and put on his sweater to throw out that first pitch. The entire stadium, both home town fans and out of town guests arose to a thunderous standing ovation. I believe there wasn't a dry eye in the house. It is an experience I will never forget.

He touched the lives of so many around the world. He will be truly missed.

It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor.
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?...

It's a neighborly day in this beauty wood,
A neighborly day for a beauty.
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?...

I've always wanted to have a neighbor just like you.
I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.

So, let's make the most of this beautiful day.
Since we're together we might as well say:
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
Won't you be my neighbor?
Won't you please,
Won't you please?
Please won't you be my neighbor?

His songs were the best:

Sometimes people are good,
and they do just what they should,
but the very same people that are good sometimes,
are the very same people who are bad sometimes,
it's funny but it's true,
it's the same, isn't for me and you?

How sad. My daughter loved to watch his show growing up. He had such a gentle soul.:(

My kids and I always got a kick out of:

Propel, propel, propel your craft
Gently through liquid solution.
Ecstatically, ecstatically, ecstatically, ecstatically;
Existance is but an illusion!

At 47, I've been a fan of Mister Rogers since I was a kid. We had a record called "Around the Children's Corner" which was all about the Neighborhood of Make Believe. We met Daniel Striped Tiger and Owl and King Friday and all the others way back then. Mister Rogers, I will miss you!

I enjoyed seeing him with my two kids while they were growing up, a very big part of their childhood. A good man he is, Mr Rogers, God bless.

Thanks, Fred,

Dan

A sad day indeed. What a wonderful man who influenced so many young lives for the better...mine included and my kids too.
What a loss.

I cried this morning during the tribute to him on the Today show. He is such a big part of my childhood memories. I would watch Sesame Street, Mister Rogers and The Electric Company back to back every afternoon.

Larry E and Saphire, thanks for posting those songs! TTFN that song used to make me laugh too.

Mister Rogers, thank you for wonderful memories and important lessons! I was proud to be your neighbor. I know we will see you again in another neighborhood! God Bless.

Mr. Rogers welcomed us all into his home every day and taught so many children how to live a good life.

His passing is difficult for us all to experience but mostly for our children.

Here is a link to Family Communications, Fred Rogers' organization. There you will find suggestions on how to help our children cope with a loss such as this as well as a place to send your condolences to his staff and family.

God Bless

Oh, how sad. He is the same age as my mother and she has stomach cancer too. I hope she doesn't hear about this, it will hit her confidence hard :(

I never cared for his program and neither did my son, but he was a kind person and really cared about children. This is a great loss.

We visited Idlewild Park in Ligonier a lot when our kids were younger. We got to ride the trolley through Mr. Rogers Neighborhood the first year that it opened there. Our family has a lot of good memories of Mr. Rogers. Prayers for his wife and children as they mourn his passing. God Bless you Mr. Rogers.

I believe he was everything in real life that he was on his tv show. I have heard so many wonderful things about this kind and caring man. He will be missed, but his legacy lives on through his show.

By the way, I heard on tv that he didn't write each response to his fan letters, but he did read them all and tweak the responses a little to answer each child's questions. Then they were printed and signed individually by him.

I guess he took off that jacket one last time and put on one of his sweaters. Welcome home, Fred.

How sad! :( I always used to love Mr. Rogers. He seemed like a great person too.

:( :( :( :( :( :( :(

I loved it when he went on field trips. He made the Post Office seem so interesting.
