We have BLT, THV.....what's next?

I know every one is excited about these great new properties......but I know Disney is up to something. What are they going to build next? Any rumors? I know there a few of you out there that are really, really good at digging up stuff...architect plans, building permits, etc. Something's up .... I just feel it!

Don't forget Hawaii and VGC (or are you only looking at WDW development?)
I think Hawaii and BLT will take awhile to sell out in this economy, but would be fun to see what else is in the minds of those imagineers! I'm personally hoping for a DLH DVC given the short supply of VGC!
 
Oh, I forgot about VGC and Hawaii. Still, I think something is up on WDW property...... somebody knows? I know there are few real sneaky researching Disney addicts on this board.
 
Between BLT, AKV, Treehouses, VGC and Hawaii, DVC has over 1100 rooms in the hopper right now.

I'm sure they have multiple sites at WDW under consideration down the road, but following historical sales patterns the above construction represents a good 6-8 years' worth of points. I wouldn't count on any new commitments anytime soon.

For what it's worth, my money is on the Contemporary getting a matching DVC tower on the south side. But that could be a decade away from happening.
 

We've seen DVC tilt toward the high-end guest with the new BLT. I keep expecting them to expand the market in the other direction too, and take DVC to a moderate resort. I'm surprised the unfinished construction at Pop Century hasn't been a temptation to them yet.

I don't think we'd have a desire to ever stay there, but a point chart that would allows week-long stays for 100 points or less would certainly expand the base of who is willing to buy.

The idea of a "DVC lite" has been floated here before. None of us can predict the mind of Disney - and I'm sure this has been discussed, but I doubt they'll ever do it. It would dilute the brand to include "downscale" accommodations. That's probably not a direction DVC wants to pursue.

And I agree with Tim. I think we've seen all the DVCs at WDW (and possibly elsewhere) that we'll see for a while. It's going to take several years for the market to soak up what they've already built. Plus Hawaii.

I would like to think they would focus on another park or somewhere to entertain all these extra guests from the expansion of rooms.

When I first saw the arial drawings, I thought that it would eventually turn into a hidden Mickey, with a second circular tower to the south, and a third in place of the existing main building far far down the road. This would give the appearance of a mickey from the air. Sounds crazy, I know.

I hope you're right. But couldn't the same thing have been said about Disney World itself 20 years ago? Disney didn't open their first moderate resort until 17 years after Walt Disney World opened. Caribbean Beach Resort, which opened in October 1988 was a major change from the other resorts that existed at the time (Contemporary, Polynesian, Disney Inn, and Grand Floridian). It was another six years, in November 1994, before they further expanded their customer base to include budget travelers. All Stars was another big change to Disney's business model, and it certainly changed the definition of "Disney accommodations." I doubt, as they add up the cash stream the moderates and values have added, that anyone at the company has regretted how it diluted their brand.

The fact that Disney Vacation Club has only been associated with deluxe-quality resorts for its first 17 years doesn't mean some marketing executive won't eventually come to the same conclusions about expanding the sales appeal of DVC to moderate and value vacationers.
