For our area, a tornado is something that happens once in a lifetime. We live up in the mountains, where there are maybe 2 flat areas. One had a winery and the other was a small farm.

Well, you guessed it, the tornado went straight for those two areas. It was a severe thunderstorm which turned into a tornado. We got the severe thunderstorm part, but the tornado hit a few towns over. Thank God no one got hurt and everyone's houses are okay, albeit some minor damage. There are A LOT of trees down though. It is just so bizarre because we are so high above sea level, tornadoes rarely ever happen here. I now have full sympathy for those who live in Tornado Alley/Lane/?.

ETA: The National Weather Service says it was an EF2 twister. Whatever that means.

Wow, that is so cool but scary! I love tornadoes! Ever since I saw Twister I always thought it would be awesome to monitor them :) Call me a dork but I think it awesome.
I am glad no one got hurt though, that is the down side to severe weather.

Wow. I'm glad no one was hurt/lost their homes.

Glad nobody was hurt!

We have so many around here. We usually have to go to a shelter averaging 5 times a season. 5 more we stick at the front door just in case. Nobody really gets worked up about them anymore though since they're always around. They get annoying though because our power can be out for awhile.

EF ratings are the intensity scale. 0-5

I heard about that on the news! That's scary. But I'm glad nobody was hurt and no major damage!

ef2 means that there was damage such as roofs being torn off and things like that. significant damage, but not total destruction.

0-6 :)

Oh, thanks.

I knew it was 5 or 6, I just checked wikipedia and it was 5.

the level six is usually left off, but technically, it has to be there. it ranges from 319mph to sonic speeds. it has never happened (and it probably never will.) but since the speeds below have all been recorded and it is possible for winds to move faster than 318 mph, they have to have another classification.

i don't know if that makes sense. sorry if it was jumbled. lol

haha i live in that area!!! it was like a half hour from my house. we had a twister that was a half a mile from my house back in 2006. EF2 is part of the rating system for twisters. it tells you how much damage it made. sorry im a huge weather geek! lol

HAha really? Where about are you?

Do you live by the Poconos?!
That's what they said on the news when I heard it!
Ahhhh how scary :O

Ouchhh that's rough :/

No. Freaking. Kidding. I will trade you houses any day of the year, I HATE it here now that everyone from Brooklyn/Bronx/Queens and their mother moved here.

you can keep those tornadoes out there ... I'll stick with our earthquakes and occasional volcano ash! :thumbsup2
