Got back late yesterday from our weekend in London to celebrate (don't know if that's the right word!) my 40th Birthday.

The Lion King was absolutely fantastic! :D What a brilliant show! I couldn't hear the speaking parts but as I knew the story and the show was very loud (love the drums!) and lots of dancing and great costumes to see, I enjoyed it very much. I bought myself a Simba beanie (£12!) which I'm sure will bring back loads of great memories in the future.

We stayed at the Marriott at County Hall - our room had a brilliant view of the river and Big Ben. The London Eye was right outside our window. Not that impressed with the service at the hotel though, and thought the hotel was a bit shabby in places but it was a good location and worth the extortionate price for one night for a special treat but I don't think we will stay there again.

We rode on the London Eye, took a cruise down the river and had Dinner at TGI Friday's and had a great tour of London whilst trying to get out of the City on the way home as we were diverted due to the fireman's protest, it took us an hour to get out of London, but we did get to see some of the sights. :D

BTW, Big Ben is a lot SMALLER than I thought it would be! ;)

Glad you had a great time. I'd love to see the Lion King again.

There's a wonderful shot at the end of Hook (the Spielberg film) which pans across the Houses of Parliament and has been altered to show Big Ben looking enormous; it looks bigger than Canary Wharf! That shot always makes me laugh. Mind you, when you look down on Whitehall and the South Bank from the top of Big Ben all of a sudden everything looks very small indeed.

Regards

Rob

Your weekend sounds very nice. :D
After we come back from WDW, I'll be asking for some help on this board as we're planning on going to London for 2 weeks in Sept. 2003.

Glad you had a wonderful birthday Mazzy no matter how old you were :p :p

I also enjoyed the Lion King the music just seems to stay with you for hours, Won't be long till we are in Florida to see the Lion King again but this time in a much better climate and a more relaxed atmosphere:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

What a lovely weekend :) ! The Lion King show is superb - I saw this as a birthday treat too :)

Glad you had a good weekend.

Glad you enjoyed yourself - all sounds brill.

24 years being brought up in West London still doesn't dim my love of visiting when I get the chance and Big Ben is great. Took DH and DD up couple of years ago and funnily enough they said how much bigger they thought it was in real life - mind you, none of us are very tall;)

Some lovely memories of your 40th birthday:cool:

What a great way to celebrate your birthday, it sounds like you had a great time. Welcome back :)
