We got upgraded to a Lagoon View - Club Level room at the Polynesian

You should not be so sure of yourself. ConcKahuna absolutely knows what they are talking about. Upgrades can be taken away, and should never be expected until you are actually in the room. If I were to book a CL LV room for your dates, and they had sold all but the one you've been upgraded to, you would not receive the upgrade, and I would be able to purchase that room. It happens regularly in the hotel and cruise industry.
Well the way my family and I see things are like this. WDW sent us a brand new e-mail confirmation and when I looked at the reservation threw their website it was also updates it with the Lagoon View. So when we check-in on Saturday we are expecting to be in the Lagoon View, because that is what WDW says we are staying in right now. In on the off chance this turns out to be a mistake which I doubt it is, then we should be offered some soart of compensation because we have it in writting that we have this specific view. I am only going by the confirmations which we currently have, so what else am I suppost to think? I understand what you both are trying to say, but why is it that I never seen you both make these comments when others mention they were upgraded before arriving at WDW? So like I said before when I have read stories of guests who were upgraded prior to leaving it was never a mistake, so why should my families situation be any different?

You're getting a little defensive about this! If it's worrying you so much, maybe you should just not think about it too much until you get there, and then if you have your upgraded room, it will be a nice surprise.

Otherwise you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

And I don't think Disney will owe you any compensation at all if they can't honor a complimentary upgrade. You didn't BOOK a lagoon view room, so you can't expect them to PAY YOU for not upgrading you. That's completely illogical. :sad2:

Print out your confirmation to have "in hand" if necessary, check in and ENJOY!!! I wish you beautiful weather and a happy holiday!!!:goodvibes

I already printed out the brand new confirmation.

CheshireVal,
Maybe I was wrong when I said the word compensation, but don't you think WDW should be a little responsible if turns out to be a mistake by telling their guests something which turned out to be a lie by disappointing them? I understand we did not reserave a Lagoon View, but all we can do is go by what is written on our new confirmations.

I have never heard of notifying folks of room upgrades ahead of time. I would think that could be more than problematic for Disney.

Actually, someone who stayed at the GF recently was told they had been upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite. If I'm remembering the details correctly, they had a split stay booked there with a few nights in a standard room and then one or two nights in a suite. They received a notification that their suite stay had been extended, but when they arrived, it was no longer available for those extra nights. Maybe what others are trying to say is that you should have that in the back of your mind just in case. Because it's a complimentary upgrade, I don't think they have any obligation to compensate you, as you'd be getting the room you originally paid for. I'm sure the chances of that happening are pretty small though.

No, I don't, honestly.

CRFan, I agree with the others. Let's hope the pixie dust holds, but you booked and are paying for gardenview so if that's what you get, just enjoy it.

My own cautionary tale is that a few years back when Hawaii was closed for renovation, we booked a gardenview room. We received a letter in the mail informing us that our concierge room would be in Tahiti. When we arrived, we had our gardenview room which we had booked. I don't know if the letter was sent by mistake or if we had been upgraded for a time before someone else actually booked that category. But we had a wonderful time anyway.

But I'm sure we'll all rooting for you.:wizard:

I remember that. Wasn't she having a big birthday bash for her daughter?

Congrats on the upgrade! :thumbsup2

I don't think any of the LVC rooms are 'blocked' by anything so you should have a clear view of the Seven Seas Lagoon. They recently trimmed some of the foliage around the Hawaii longhouse.

One day I'll make it to LVC. In the meantime I'll be hanging around in plain old LV. :lmao:

I cannot imagine not being able to see the fireworks from any LV concierge room in Hawaii, they all looked the same to me! BEAUTIFUL!

I was going to post this as well - so although its nice to dream -- you need to wait and see.

If you PAID for a lagoon view and were downgraded, then of course you should expect the difference in the room rate and some other compensation such as a fruit basket or something. But to expect compensation for something you didn't pay for is absurd at best. Talk about an entitlement mentality. :confused3

I understand what you both are trying to say, but why is it that I never seen you both make these comments when others mention they were upgraded before arriving at WDW?

Because maybe you didn't read them or see them? I've told people until I'm blue in the face to never expact anything that you didn't actually pay for at WDW. That includes views, birthday celebrations, bedding types, you name it. If it's not what you reserved and paid for, you are NOT entitled to it. Period. If it happens, it's pixie dust, but NEVER expect it to happen.

So like I said before when I have read stories of guests who were upgraded prior to leaving it was never a mistake, so why should my families situation be any different?

Actually there was someone a few months ago who posted that they arrived to find that their free upgrade had been taken away. That was it. She even said she was glad she hadn't mentioned it to her kids. I think it might have been at AKL. And keep in mind that there are what, 30,000 rooms at WDW, and a small number of people staying in them at any given time actually post on these boards. Or get themselves into a tizzy about the things I've seen people in a tizzy about around here.

Bottom line, book the room you'll be happy with, and never expect an upgrade, just be happy when and if it happens.

OP-expecting compensation for not getting an upgrade has got to be one of the silliest things I've ever read on the DIS. And that's saying a lot.

I am sorry saying we should get compensation, I was wrong. What I should have said was we think that it would be nice if they were to offer something else, as an appology for thinking we were upgraded. After reading what ducklite has said I get that free upgrades can be taken away, or they could have been a mistake. I also get that we did not originally reserve a Lagoon View room. However what are we suppost to think when we got a new confirmation e-mailed to us and our confirmation on their website has the upgraded room? It's easy to be on the other side and say it might not be true, however I am sure if you found out that you were being upgraded before you left, you're reaction would be different. So try to see things from my view with out all the rules and etc when it comes to free upgrades. Anyway if it's not WDW's fault or someone from CRO then who else can I say is responsible for sending us the confirmation and updating the confirmation on their website?

Not at WDW, but at another resort we were told that we were given a free upgrade about three weeks before our trip began. We got there and it had been taken away. We were given the option to upgrade at a cost to yet another type of room. We had booked what we'd be happy with, so we kept our original room type. It was no big deal. We never expected compensation or anything else, never said that they had "lied," never considered it blasphemy, just accepted it as "stuff happens" and went on to enjoy our vacation.

ETA: My friend just got back from a cruise. They had booked a guarantee room, and before they left, they looked online and found out that they had been upgraded several categories. They got to the port to find out that the upgrade had been taken away, and that they were back in the original category that they had booked. They had a great cruise, and certainly didn't pitch a hissy fit.

I was on a flight a few weeks ago and the guy next to me had been given a free upgrade to first class based on his elite status. Another person bought a first class ticket at the last minute, and they actually had to move the guy in the seat next to me after he was seated. I've seen that happen a couple of times. I haven't had it happen to me--yet, but I'm sure some day it will, and I'll be gracious about it when it does.

I want to wish you plenty of pixie dust so you can keep your upgrade. If so, you just might come back and change your name to "Poly Resort Fan 4 Life".

Did you get that upgrade? I booked through a TA, will I still get the same "option" for an upgrade as the time gets closer?
