We got our Child Tax Credit check today!

We received our check today. It's going to be used for airfare to Sanibel in December. A very nice surprise today.

Yep! We got ours. After all the complaining Ive done about the kids and their fighting this summer, I guess I cant be too mad at them, LOL!

Some is going into savings, and some of it will be used as spending money for our WDW trip in just a few weeks!

We got ours today also. My 14 DD suggested we have another kid so we could get another $400. I said that another child would cost lots more than $400 and a tax refund probably wasn't the reason to have another child.

We're expecting ours soon, although I don't know how we're going to use it. It's a toss up between savings and working a down payment on a new mini-van; although wouldn't that be something savings would go for anyway ?

Wal-Mart has signs up all over the store saying they'll be "glad to accept child tax credit checks". Somehow that seemed a little pushy.

Pam, if you believe the "hocus pocus" coming from Bush and his cronies, the whole idea is for consumers to spend their checks to support the economy . Hey, if I ran a retail operation, I'd do my very best to get customers to spend their check in my store!!!!
Perhaps it's "pushy", but no one has ever said that business operations are gentile ........

We got ours today too. DH ordered a power washer from QVC already and the rest is going towards a swingset for DS and a new printer for our computer.

Its true we dont get the extra money for children born before 1987? Does anyone have an idea on why that is ? Has anyone else wondered why they think we didnt deserve it for our teenagers ? I was planning on giving my checks to the kids , so now they have to split just the one.

Here's some info from www.irs.gov, outlining some cases where taxpayers with children don't qualify for the refund...

Not All Are Eligible

Some taxpayers with children are not eligible for the advance payment, including:

* Taxpayers who filed Form 1040EZ, which doesn’t provide for claiming dependents or the Child Tax Credit.
* Taxpayers who had income that exceeded certain limits.
* Taxpayers whose only children were born before 1987.
* Taxpayers whose only child was born in 2003.
* Taxpayers whose Child Tax Credit and Additional Child Tax Credit for 2002 totaled less than $600 for each qualifying child because of the tax liability and earned income limitations.

The Child Tax Credit begins to phase out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income above:

* $110,000, if married filing jointly
* $55,000, if married filing separately, or
* $75,000, for all others.
