We found the best punishment for our 12yr. old

He is not allowed to used XBOX live.. He disconnected XBOX from the internet. He said that it would of been better if he was grounded from playing XBOX

It is driving him crazy

Taking away the Nintendo DS is the most effective punishment I've found for my 7-yo. Not that he was allowed to play for more than 30 minutes a day anyway, but taking that for a week or two cleared up some issues with behaving at school! He wasn't doing anything "bad", but talking, not staying in his seat, etc.

Yep! First thing to go in our house is the PS3. Just the threat is enough to get the desired outcome.

Even better, set up the family timer on the 360 and put it on for the minimum amount of time 15 minutes... Set the family timer with a password.

That is our best punishment EVER.

Only punishment needed in our house is no electronics (no video games, itouch, etc.). As I watched my BIL and SIL trying to discipline their 3 year old recently, I thought about how much easier it is just to take away the electronics when kids are older.

Yep -- We ground off of technology. (computer, Wii, DS, etc) They get it. And they respect it.

This is what my son is like splaying on live right now. too bad for him. We have taken his Xbox away, but being able to play and not have live is driving him crazy.

My DS16 was grounded from x-box 360, and when it came time to get it back, he said he "didn't want the temptation" and asked us not to give it back

That thing, especially the online games, are very VERY addictive.

Lately I've been making dd13 write me a two page paper about why she shouldn't do whatever she shouldn't be doing. It's actually been fun. After the initial fuming, she really gets into it, writes a hilariously funny paper, and doesn't repeat the crime again.
