We flew down on Sat for me to be able to spend my 40th birthday at the magic Kingdom on Sunday. We took the DVC tour on Sat, and we bought at BLT! I couldn't be happier or more surprised at my husbands excitement too!

We got a Feb Use Year. We usually travel the last week of Jan ( kids Winter Break from school) or second week of March. Is Feb a good Use Year for that? In my excitement of my husband saying, "Yes." I did not even think straight!

I do know they said we get our 160 points for 2009 in Feb, so I was tickled about that. I think I read somewhere that if you bought in Oct of last year, or when they first came out, you don't get your points until Oct of 2009??

Anyway, I'm super happy, and can't believe I am now part of the "In Club"!!!

Congratulations!!! I would love to say "Welcome Home" but I am one of those waiting for my husband to say "yes"!!

I don't think I understand about buying and getting Feb 09 points. If you don't mind me asking, what were the terms of the deal? What did you pay per point and what kind of points do you get to use. We want to go to WDW in June of 09 and I am guessing that if I bought BLT points that won't help me for that trip.

Again Congrats!!!

If you are traveling the last week of January, then February is not a good UY in the event you have to cancel the vacation. January is a good UY for your March vacations, since that is early in the UY. You might be able to contact your guide and get a different UY if you want it if you are early in the purchase process.

Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the club!

Thanks! I was a little worried when I got to thinking about if we had to cancel. I will call my guide....we just signed the papers on Sat, so we still are in the 10 day "can change your mind" category!

We got what is currently advertised...800 "gift card" ( It would have been 1000 if bought at AKL) and 160 developer points to use before October 3rd at SSR.

Surprisingly, I have talked about DVC for years, but I finally got him to take the tour because it was for my birthday. He was pleasantly surprised, and I got my dream! The rooms are huge selling points. Pics do not do them justice!

:welcome: Congratulations & Welcome Home !!!! :welcome:

If you tend to cancel vacations..maybe because of your job...then UY is important.
If not.... Don't worry about it !!! Its over-rated on the worry list:goodvibes

That is great!

So the $800 went against your deposit right? Did you pay the 112 per point or the 107? or is that what the $800 gift card does, bring down the price. You also got matching 160 points to use at SSR. Now since you have a Feb use year you will get your points in Feb but won't be able to use them until September is that correct?? It is very confusing! Thanks!

One other scenario regarding UY that I didn't think of when buying. it is not just helpful for cancellations. If you have a waitlist request come through that saves you points, then you will not be able to bank those "saved" points if you are too near your UY. For instance, I have a waitlist request for our March trip that (if granted) will require 28 fewer points than our current reservation. Since my UY is June, if the waitlist request is granted after January 31, I will not be able to bank those points. In your case OP (January trip, Feb UY), you will have even less time to use those points (or transfer them) or lose them.

Scott what is a good use year if you like to travel in the summer? Thanks!

Sometime in spring would be the best UY in that situation. UY that falls just prior to your typical travel dates seems to be the best.

Yes...true I guess..depending on when the ressie is and how close you cut it. Thanks for that...Hummmm:rolleyes1 Wouldn't you want to just pay cash by 1/31 and bank those pts??

I never had to wait list anything in my 7 yrs. of DVC, making ressies 11/7 mos. with no problems..

Happy Belated Birthday. Congratulations and Welcome Home!!!!:cool1: :cool1:

Happy Belated Birthday, and Congratulations! We also just bought into BLT...just mailed all our documents back to them this morning. We will almost always travel in June, July or August when the kids are out of school...and we picked an April UY.

Congratulations! Your experience sounds so similar to mine....I was trying forever to explain the benefit of buying DVC to my husband, but it wasn't until we took the tour that he finally understood and agreed. AND, we also just took the plunge and bought 160 points at BLT yesterday! Can't wait for the papers to arrive to make it official.

Welcome home, neighbor!

Congrats!!! I could not be more excited for you :) Certainly the best kind of birthday!!
