We had planned on surprising our two DD's on Father's Day by telling them we're going to WDW in September, but yesterday afternoon I decided I couldn't wait another second!

While they were resting in their rooms, DH and I set up a treasure hunt for them. We then sat them on the couch in the living room, and explained that Mommy & Daddy had been working on a game for them. We told them that we were going to do a treasure hunt, and they would get a surprise at the end! We knew DD-4 would have a little bit of difficulty with this, so we told DD-7 that she could read each clue out loud, then they could figure out the clues together, and when they reached each destination, DD-4 could retrieve the next clue. There were 10 clues in all, with the last clue taking them outside onto the porch. There they found 2 gifts bags (one for each) and a scroll tied up with red ribbon. We told them they had to read the scroll before they opened their gifts. This is what the Scroll Said....

Now that Summer is Almost Here,
It's Time to Start Thinking About Taking a Vacation This Year,

I've Talked to Your Mom & Dad, and They Both Agree,
That on September 29th, You'll Be Coming To See ME!

I Can't Wait for You to Join Me in the Florida Sun,
You'll Get to Meet Me and My Friends and We'll Have Loads of Fun!!

Love, MICKEY MOUSE

Well, needless to say they were VERY EXCITED!!!!! We video taped the whole thing! It was just great!!

They then got to open their gifts, which were small back-packs filled with stuff they can take on their trip. (Autograph Book, Fat Pen, GOH Badges, Disposable Disney Princess Cameas, Enough Pennies & Quarters for 25 Pressed Pennies Each, Disney Dollars, Etc.) It was a hit! Needless to say, this turned out to be a day we'll all remember forever! We're all so psyched now that we could hardly sleep last night!! (This could be a problem considering we don't go for another 113 days!:o )

OK, Sorry I rambled so long..... I just had to share our story with someone, and I knew that all you DIS'ers would understand!

WOO HOO!!!!! WE'RE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!!!

We couldn't wait to tell our kids either! But you told yours in such a creative way. Good for you!

Awwww...what a great day for your family! :)

We are surprising the kids (DD5 & DS0) with this next trip. They are veterans tho and this will be their 10th & 12th trips - so it gets harder to surprise them!

Hope you have a great time as you'll be going on my birthday! :)

Jill

That is such a great idea!!!! What a great thing for the kids to look forward too, and a wonderful way to present it to them!!!! Hope you have a wonderful time, and if you don't mind, I might steel your idea in a couple of years when my son get's older!!!! :):wave2:

Good for y ou! We are surprising our daughter with a trip to Disneyland for her 8th birthday. It all started because we had decided two years ago that this October we would do Disneworld during our kids fall breaks. The thing is, it falls over my son's birthday making him feel quite lucky. So we kept thinking poor dd is left out of "birthday at disney" so we cashed in some miles and are going. We decided we will pick her up at school as usual, hand her a box and tell her open this up one day early for your birthday! Then off to the airport. Just now trying to think of something clever to put into the box so she will instantly know what is happening! Can't believe we are nuts enough to do two Disney trips in a five week period. Hey you only live once!

That was a really cool idea both lasmickey and Amy&Dan.

I wasn't going to tell my girls we were going back this year for two reasons...one for the surprise factor and two...so I don't have to hear everyday on the way to preschool..."are we going to Disney World today?" for the next 80 something days.

My mom spilled the beans though. They are very excited.

Have fun on your trips!!

We spilled the beans in a game of hangman with our kids. We said we had a three part idea and they'd have to join each part together to solve the 'challenge'. First word (vacation) + second word (plane) = third word (Disneyworld). It took them a moment to figure it all out and really believe we weren't just giving them a puzzle to solve - but that we were actually going to Disney! It was great. Afterwards we watched the planning video...and then the excitement and the countdown began.

Why not put Mickey ears in the box? That is how my parents surprised me with a trip to Disneyland when I was about 7.

It was a great idea! The stuffed them in the glovebox and asked me to get a map out..

We go on the 21st December 2004...and plan on telling dd 11 and ds 15 on the 18th December ...we will use the excuse of having a xmas day because certain relatives cant be with us on the actual day....I am going to make home made christmas crackers and start a treasure hunt then.

My df died 8 weeks ago, so the kids were really down so we told them we had booked a tip to Florida...but at Easter 2005...this way they can look forward to it and even input....but really we are going at xmas 2004.

Thank you all so much for sharing in my story! I knew you guys were the right ones to share it with! We are all so terribly excited now! It's all the girls talk about. They tell everyone they see how we surprised them, and that they're going to WDW in September. I'm so glad we video taped the whole thing. They love to watch it! They watch it over, and over, and over again! :D

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!! I'm teary eyed now! LOL!! That is so cool how you and dh set that all up for them, what a wonderful memory!!!! And smart to video tape it!! Stay busy this summer and the time will fly! :wave2:
