Hi,

I just found out that we closed @ BCV today!!!! Yeah!!!

I talked to my guide about SSR. She could talk about it, finally. Here's the deal: Its $89 a point as previously stated. The contract will be from the opening in 2004 until 2054 (50yrs) As of now after 39 years all resorts BCV, BWV, WLV, OKW, HH, and Vero will close. She says that this is because unless ALL MEMBERS agree to an extention of their current contract they couldn't afford the mantenance to those resorts. Which makes sense, I think. So after 39 years unless other resorts are built, SSR will be the only DVC available to stay at. Don't kill the messenger. I'm happy with my 39 years!! I may decide to add on there later on. I'd have to stay there first though. At this time my guide is giving her prospective members a choice: Buy BCV or Boardwalk for 39 years or wait until Aug 2nd to buy @ SSR. So far people are choosing BVC or BWV. I think that says something.

I would have to agree. The location of SSR doesn't bother me. I am an OKW owner, so I like the location, but the smaller acommodations in an out of the way spot WOULD bother me. I think it will lack the charm of OKW and not have the location of BWV or BCV. As to the 39 or 50 years.....In 39 years, I will be 95, so I doubt I will care!

Kinda makes me wonder what the maintenance of the resorts will be 35 years from now...I mean if you are just going to shut the place down in 4 years how much is anybody going to want to put much into maintaining it those last few years....what are they going to do---blow them up??? I can't believe they would not just try to sell them again...blowing them up seems a waste of the investment....but who knows???

Paul,

My guide didn't say anything about reselling to new members. That's a good point!!! You might want to call your guides & ask.

I would think they would offer the current owners, or their heirs to continue with dues for a "reup" fee. That way they could still have all the DVCs for trade purposes, and the new ending date resorts could still take advantage of the others. I think Disney has always done a good job of keeping things in good repair, so I would assume all would be aging quite will.

I would think any post-2042 plans for current DVC resorts would be subject to change between now and then. 39 years is a long time, and who knows what factors may develop that might influence what happens to these resorts after 2042?

I agree with Johnathan that what is going to happen 39 years from now is not yet set in concrete. I don't think there should be too much concern that Disney will allow the resorts to decay and then just buldoze them on 2/1/2042. Look at the Contemporary and The Poly. They continue to be maintained and look good. If nothing else, Disney takes over the DVC resorts as regular WDW hotels.

I would imagine they have to be very careful about what they say to prospective buyers of SSR about the availability of the other DVC resorts. They sure don't want to promise that they will be an option, even if they probably will be. They probably won't make that decision for a long time anyway. But the safe thing to do is just tell them that the others will not be around, and then if they are, nobody has anything to complain about.

Hey! Congratualtions and Welcome Home :)

Thanks for the news about SSR.

As I've said all along, a large majority of members would need to sign on. Stll I wouldn't expect any guide to know about plans for an extension or to tell you if they did. Wait untill around the time the last new resort is selling out and see what happens. Whether this is SS or EP or ? is the ?.

The assumption that SSR will be the only place to stay on DVC after 2042 assumes nothing else will be built between now and then.

IMHO, that's not a robust assumption.

How do other timeshares work? Do they also have an ending date or do you own them forever? Does anybody know?

Some are Right to Use and expire at some point. Others you own forever. Still others, you only get points and belong to a club. There are many variations.

Congratulations on your BCV ownership, and WELCOME HOME!! :)

And thanks for the SSR information. I guess we'll need to dig out some of those old threads and see who predicted the pricing correctly! :)

Of course, we don't know what kind of incentives they might offer as far as Magical Beginnings or other things like they did with BCV.

Granny,

Thanks for the Welcome Home & SSR info!!!!

It's definitely the incentives I'm interested in hearing about. I only want 60 more points -- incentives for BCV, BWV & VB were all 100 point minimums. When we bought our first add-on of 75 points to OKW, we got Magical Beginnings. If they'd give me that kind of discount on SSR I'd definitely be interested.

Welcome Home tinkgrl.

Is BCV your first purchase? We stayed there in 10/2002 and loved the location to Epcot. When is your first trip home?

Hey, thanks for the info on SSR. We all will be waiting for the final info in "black & white".

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't our contracts state that DVC resorts would revert back to Disney properties at the end of the contract? To me that sounds as though they would become WDW resorts managed by the big company, not DVD.

Yesdisneyfool,

Like your username! Thanks for the welcome home!! Yes, BCV is our first purchase. Not our first to WDW! We've gone every year since May 2001. Wishing we would have done DVC sooner!! We are planning a trip home & wonder cruise either next Spring or the following (2005). We'll see! I loved the location too. Love Epcot & MGM!!! Thanks again!

Allison
