Hi
I know it is non refundable fess due to trip insurance, but still sounds a bit unfair because it is a major global situation ..

We had 3 staterooms all paid in full for sailing on March, but with a large party of 10 that includes many traveling from other country it was a bit of a gamble the chance of positive test at the port

we might book again for next year but the usd1000 in non refundable fees caught us by surprise… we booked through a TA and she said that recently Disney changed the trip insurance cancellation fees

do you think anything can be done to dispute those?

I don't know how DCL is handling the insurance payments, but, typically, insurance is purchased through an outside provider and the cost of purchasing it is non-refundable.

For example, you can't purchase life insurance, and because you didn't "use" it, you can't get the premiums back.

That said, often travel insurance will allow you to transfer a purchased policy to a new trip when you can't take the originally purchased trip.

Typically, when you purchase a policy there is a "look-back" or review period during which you can change your mind and cancel the policy. If you are outside that window (and it sounds like you may be), you can certainly ask your TA if you can get a voucher for the premium paid or apply the policy to a new trip - the TA might have better luck reaching out directly to the policy provider. DCL is being pretty lenient in refunding Disney-imposed fees for covid-related reasons, but have stated within those new terms that travel insurance and other third-party fees are non-refundable.

You knew the insurance was non-refundable and purchased it with full knowledge that we are in the middle of a pandemic and the associated risks of traveling with a large group. Now that the terms and conditions no longer suit you, you expect the money back? Sorry, but in the nicest of ways, that is not how it works.

I thought DCL was offering a 75% FCC for the non refundable fees. This is from the policy info I received. Or is the $1,000 the 25% of the fees.

In the event that you choose to cancel for a non-insured reason at any time up until departure, and you have purchased the Disney Cruise Line Vacation Protection Plan, you will receive a Disney Cruise Line cruise credit equal to 75% of the prepaid non-refundable cancellation fees imposed for your use toward a future cruise.

That is when you sub it a claim to insurance for a non-covered reason, insurance denies the claim, then DCL will offer a 70% credit. It sounds like OP cancelled under DCL's flexible policy.

The "fees" that were not refunded to the OP was the travel insurance premium, not a "cancellation fee." That is not DCL's to refund, it is technically purchased from a third-party with DCL as the middleman. DCL makes it clear that third-party fees are out of their control.

Have you TA check with the insurance company that you bought the policy from, assuming you had him or her buy it. They will transfer to a new cruise.
That's what mine did (Arch) when my September 2020 DCL cruise was canceled by DCL due to COVID; it was moved to my November 2021 DCL cruise
