We did it! We did it!

I work for a non-profit in NYC, City Harvest. We receive and subsequently distribute donated food throughout all 5 bouroughs to more than 800 community programs. (for more info, here's our website: www.cityharvest.org )

I happen to manage the volunteer services department and yesterday, with 18 volunteers at my side, in partnership with a local cable access television show, we broke the Guinness Book of World's Record for the largest picnic! With 1,340 guests, we beat the old record by 281 people! Woo hoo!

It was a great way to have fun while spreading the news of the plight of New York's hungry. It was such an amazing day with so many incredible New Yorker's!

Added bonus, I was on WABC News, CNN, NY1 (local major news network) and a couple of other tv stations, as well as about a half dozen radio shows. Plus, I got a chance to speak to the entire crowd!!

I just had to share. It was a great day with so many moments that I'm so proud of. If any of you out there participated, THANK YOU!

Congratulations, Rick! I live in Penna. and I saw this on the Pittsburgh TV station last night! (Although they didn't show you talking, sorry.......)

What a great event that was!:bounce:

Well how cool is that, my pal RickinNYC?????? Kudos to you and all your volunteers. Did you get to see yourself on TV?

What a rewarding feeling that must have been! Good for you!

Thanks for all the kudos!

Everyone at City Harvest knows how repetitive and/or maudlin our message re: hunger in NYC can get. We have a pretty well known reputation in the city. Lots of folks just say "I know I know I know."

So it's nice to be able to have such a social occasion, one that was so much fun for the participants and volunteers, and to actually break a world's record. It was a neat day for everyone!

And what made matters so much better was that stormy weather had been predicted. Even the Weather Channel said early in the morning "...and for those of you who plan on participating in the World's Largest Picnic at Bryant Park, be prepared to get wet!.." It was nice to get the mention but still... The weather held out during the entire event until almost exactly a half hour after it was hour. Then it was a WDW rain storm BAM!

Thanks again! I'm still so excited!

And Debbie, I did indeed get so see myself on the news! In fact, I was so tired when I got home that I feel asleep watching TV. I woke up all groggy, only to see my mug on the tube yacking. Very surreal!
