Good morning gang..... I hope everyone has their walking shoes on today. Boston is a city best explored by foot...... there is so much history in Boston, so much to see and do.

But before we head into Boston we are taking a quick detour to:

That's fine - I think they have late checkout - so it's extra sleep for me!

Please hang the do not disturb tag on the way out!

Eeeeep.... so I lied.... I have a few moments while DH is getting ready.

Well no trip to Boston would be complete without a stop at.....

fenway.jpg

Fenway Park! Home of the Red Sox and the "green monster". Fenway is actually the oldest Major League baseball stadium.... it was built in 1912.... the stadium got its name from its location.... the "Fenway" area of Boston.

Next is is the Faneuil Hall marketplace:

market.jpg

Faneiul Hall was completed in 1742 and was used as a marketplace and meeting hall. The old buildings remain but have been replaced with higher end stores and eateries. Faneuil Hall

Just a short walk away is the New England Aquarium:

Now we are going to hope on the "T" subway system:

t_map.jpg

And head over to the Museum of Fine Arts:

mfa.jpg

The MFA houses paintings from great artists such as Monet and Renoir, among many others.

And back on the "T" as we head to the Boston Common:

BostonCommon.jpg

Boston Common is a public park located near the center of the city, it has the distinction of being the oldest city park in the US. Boston Common is also one of the stops on the "Freedom Trail" walking tour which we will be exploring later.

Just on the outskirts of the Boston Common is something that everyone might recognize:

bull22098_JPG.jpg

This is the Bull & Finch pub which was the setting for the TV show Cheers. It still operates as a pub and has a gift shop with themed merchandise from the TV show.

Next we head over to the other side of Boston Common and visit Newbury Street:

newbury.jpg

Newbury Street runs from the Boston Common all the way out to Mass. Ave, which is one of the main roads through Boston. On Newbury you can find shopping from high-end designers like Armani to more affordable like Urban Outfitters. Restaurants range from the high to low end also.

Wow, this is making me feel very old. Did anyone bring any Ben Gay and Bayer Aspirin with them on this road trip? ...........(waiting the funny comment from HMF)
No comment needed. ;)

Alright gang.... I will be back in a bit to conclude our tour of Boston with some of the historical sites.

...BTM, can you PM me on how to get the map pics posted?
Maybe Im missing something but cant seem to do it.
Will check in later tonight!

SUPER-SECRET instructions have been PM'd. You are one of the chosen few to recieve these instructions. With Great Image Posting Powers comes Great Responsibilty (wait...have I heard something like that before? ).

Ok.... so my mother in-law decided to drive herself home.... so we now continue with the historical portion of our tour.

The best way to see the majority of historical places in Boston is to take a Freedom Trail tour.... these are walking tours through the city that are led by guides in period costume. Freedom Trail Tours

I will share with you a few of the highlights form the tour.

First up is the Granary Burying Ground:

granary.jpg

The Granary Burying Ground is where many notable historic figures are buried, people like Samuel Adams, John Hancock, and Paul Revere.

This cemetary is also a stop on one of the famed Boston Ghost tours.... New England Ghost Tours

Next up is Paul Revere's house:

800px-Paul_Reveres_House_Boston_MA_.jpg

It is as stated.... Paul Revere's house..... it dates back to the late 1600's, it is also one of the oldest structures in Boston. Paul Revere was still living in this house the night he made his famous "midnight" ride to warn of the arrival of the Redcoats.

Which brings us to:

maoldnorthchurch.jpg

The Old North Church. This is the famed church where two lanterns were raised on April 18th, 1775 to signal that the British were coming "one if by land, two if by sea"..... this event is considered to be the start of the Ameican Revolution.

Next up we have the USS Constituion:

USS-Constitution-420.jpg

Also known as "Old Ironsides"..... it is the oldest commissioned warship still floating.

As we conclude our Freedom Trail tour.... we leave with the Bunker Hill Monument:

This monument marks the Battle of Bunker Hill, which is the first time the Colonials held its own against the British army. The Battle of Bunker Hill was also one of the first major battles to be fought in the American Revolution.

I'm sure by now everyone must be starving, so we are going to eat at a Boston tradition:

Here is their site: Legal Sea Foods

After everyone has had some lunch we are going to re-group and head out of Boston and into Western Massachusetts for a few quick stops before our tour ends.

Our last stop in Boston is for the guys:

Enough said.

As we make our way into western Mass. our first stop is for the ladies:

yankee4.jpg

South Deerfield is home to Yankee Candle... and the Yankee Candle factory. It is overwhelming when you step through the doors and see how many different scents and candles there are: Yankee Candle

Our next stop out west is at Tanglewood.... which is the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra:

Lastly we take a road tour through the beauty of the Berkshires:

Here is a website with more info: The Berkshires

I hope you all enjoyed the tour of my area.... all that is left to do is gas up the motor home and start heading to Ontario, Canada to see what
3guysandagal in store for us.

I'm such a dope! As soon as I spotted your photo, I started thinking to myself, "Now why did HMFan include the Washington Monument in his tour of Boston?"

BTW, You're a great tour guide, HMFan! :thumbsup2

HMF -- wonderful job! I really liked your abbreviated history version -- was fun and I learned a few things :thumbsup2

I love Fanuiel Hall area...I used to work for Verizon so had a chance to walk around downtown Boston when I had a business trip -- much fun and brought back memories.

Can't wait to see Canada -- never been there! Do we need to take some language courses?? :rotfl2:

As we make our way into western Mass. our first stop is for the ladies:

:woohoo: Yay!!! Shopping!!! :woohoo: (Thanks for working some "retail therapy" into our trip! ;) )

South Deerfield is home to Yankee Candle... and the Yankee Candle factory. It is overwhelming when you step through the doors and see how many different scents and candles there are: Yankee Candle

No kidding! I love Yankee Candles, but one at a time! I can't step into the little shop in our mall without getting a headache. Sensory overload! :faint:

I hope you all enjoyed the tour of my area.... all that is left to do is gas up the motor home and start heading to Ontario, Canada to see what 3guysandagal in store for us.
