Well, got off of work around 12:45 this afternoon and got home, finished packing the car and now we are on our way, first to Destin Fl. for the week and then checking into the Fort Nov. 1 - 15:banana:

Was up at 4:30 this morning for work, and was able to take a 2 hr. power nap around 10:30. Leaving at 4:00 pm and should be in Destin tomorrow afternoon at about 3:00.

Running down the list of things packed so I can see if I forgot anything.

Filled up the car at 3.37 a gallon, first stop for fuel should be in Hackensack NJ.
Will up date when possible :surfweb: and can't wait to get there.

Medic,

Be careful on your trip. Destin was nice for us last weekend. Avoid the outlet malls unless you want to be broke by the time you get to Disney. Oh yeah, watch out for bears?? Not sure, but saw several "watch for bears" signs coming into Crestview/Niceville, FL. Gators yes, but bears!?

I'll follow along with ya until we meet up at the Fort. Safe travels.

PS,
$3.37 a gallon? Ouch! $2.71 a gallon here in deep dark Mississippi.

Safe travels! Honk and wave if/when you drive through Connecticut this evening! :wave2:

My parents live in a retirement community near the AFB, and they have seen a bear wondering around the neighborhood.

3.37 is cheap for us, it got as high as 4.15 when it spiked.

Kristen, not going through Connecticut, but thanks for the response. Hoping to have good weather all the way. Rained all week here in Vt.

Happy Trails snowmedic.

Have a big time.

Safe travels. Gas is $2.66 in Tn, you could swing by for some. ;)

Have a safe trip! We go through Destin alot and can't remember where gas is usually the cheapest at there. Across the line in Alabama its around $2.75. I found diesel fuel for $3.22 Tuesday in Gautier, Ms. Had to do my happy dance at the pump!!:cool1:

Well we made it to Destin and what a beautiful morning. 74 degrees and the sun is shinning. BIG difference in weather from Vermont, 44 degrees for high.

We didn't get in until 12:30 this morning. We spent 2.5 hrs in traffic in DC friday night at 2:30, so that made me tired and I had to stop. Took the back way to get here, went through Montgomery and dropped down to Mobile to see it if the Battleship was lite up. It looked good with the sub in the background, going to go and tour that on Wednesday.

Fuel prices on the way down, most expensive, and we had to pay it was in Vermont, 3.37, the least was 2.75 in Ruther Glenn VA. at 2.75. Going to go to the base before we leave and see if it is any cheaper. Total spent on a 2 day, 1,671 mile drive was 239.00.

When I get out and see the sites I will post pics, if you have something in mind, let me know and I will do my best to post.

Leaving out for the Fort Saturday morning at 8:30. :cool1:

Glad you made it to the beach safely Medic. We wanted to stop by Battleship Park on the way back, but we had the dog and didn't want to leave her. We haven't been in about 5 years so I guess it's time to squeeze it into next year's Gulf State Park vacation on the way down or back.

Have a great time! I'm going to live vicariously through you while you are in Florida :) It's cloudy and showers today in Vermont, the sun came out for a couple seconds ;)
Looking forward to the Fort pictures.

DC at 2:30 on a friday, yeah that is not a good time to be passing through here.

Glad you had a good drive, I been happy to watch diesel prices drop and just hope the trend continues as its already shaved 100 off my expected fuel bill for the trip in January as long as prices stay around 3.499 or less.

Yesterday was a gorgeous day. Went to a beach in West Destin with my sister and her husband, and it was beautiful. Nice white sand beach, not a lot of seashells, and the water was nice and warm. Stayed to watch the sun set, and then went back to my parents and cook steaks, then off to the hot tub for a late night soak.

Going back to Destin today, Bass Pro Shops and then a gulfarium. Might squeeze in a tour of the Air Force armament museum outside the gates of Eglin AFB this afternoon.

Made it to the armament museum today, pretty neat to see all the weaponry used in the different war, and the aircraft. They where having a retirement ceremony while we were there.

Took the 2 DD's to the beach and watched them play, the water is actually warmer there than the pool where we are staying.

This evening we went for a walk on the boardwalk and looked at all the charter boats, and listened to some of the house bands at the bars. Nothing to drink, it's a 12 mile drive back to where we are staying.

We are off to the battleship tomorrow in Mobile, then back to the beach.

Today's high: 84

Hey snowmedic, your down in my neck of the woods. I live about ten minutes outside of Mobile, down in Grand Bay. Too bad I am at work in Louisiana. I am enjoying reading along on your trip report, between you and tiggerdad, yall are getting my hyped up for our Disney trip in Feb. Enjoy joy the battleship and the rest of your trip. BTW I dont if your familiar with Mobile or not, but there are some great places to eat in Mobile, if you like fresh Gulf caught seafood try Felix's Fish Camp next to the battleship, The Original Oyster House or Ed's Seafood, all of them are on the bay way close to the Battleship. If you like good country cooking Lambert's Cafe is on Hwy 59 in Foley, its a little ways off the interstate but its our favorite place to eat, my 7 year old DS likes it because they throw rolls to you from across the room. There's usually a wait to get in during summer and on weekends. Enjoy your trip and safe travels.
