We have joined!
150 SSR points and 50 BWV points, April UY, through Disney direct. The sale of one of our other timeshares is completed and have now bought the above via Disney. I can't tell you all how much I have appreciated your help.
I researched these boards, read and reread several posts to try to understand how DVC works.
There is such a difference between Disney and Marriott!
I think I understand the basics.
I did comparison charts between buying resale and direct. We finally chose to go direct after factoring in the discount at SSR, ease and not worrying about ROFR. (We also received '06 points for BWV which was a bonus.) The final price difference wasn't worth the hassle of resale. Our guide Gib has been very helpful and patient.
We will be there in January for a conference, staying at Marriott Grande Vista (booked a while ago). I plan to go and visit all the DVC resorts while my husband is in meetings.
Being an experienced Marriott owner, the tipping point for us in buying Disney was the flexibility and choices available through Disney. We still own (and love) our three Marriotts, but this will enhance our vacation experiences. We view our timeshares as prepaid vacations and don't really look at cost savings. With that in mind we are going to do the Safari in Tanzania in fall of '08. We will also use our points for cruises. Again, I understand that these may not be "the best use" of points, but for us this opens several avenues for vacation options with a minimum of stress.
Thank you again!
Lisa
