Well I am not actually in Disneyland right now, but in my hotel, which is about a half mile from the entrance. :rotfl2: It's very early here, I think 4:45 and I have been up since about 3:15. I tried to fall back to sleep and finally gave up and came on here. My family isn't budging, lol!

We arrived here yesterday...we flew into the Orange County airport. It was a pretty good flight, a little long for me (6 hours!) but it actually went fairly quick. I was able to sleep a little but mostly I read, watched the inflight movie (Drillbit Taylor...it was ok, I had never heard of it) and reviewed our Disneyland plans (of course!)

The weather yesterday was perfect! Warm, but not too hot and no humidity!

I forget the name of the company we used to shuttle us here...I will have to ask my DH. We paid $76 for a private van and they brought us right to the hotel. Our driver was friendly and told us all about the area and even offered to stop at Del Taco for us after I mentioned never eating at one (we declined).

We are staying at the Marriot on Convention Way. It is nice...the room really much smaller than I imagined it would be but since my husband's company is paying for it, I really have no complaints. It has two beds, which is all my family really needs.

My husband has family in the area and his cousin works for Disney. He picked us up and took us to this really neat store, that is for cast members and their guests. I bought all my souvenirs, a few things for myself and a bunch of pins and spent less than $100! I am pretty sure that might end up being the coolest part of our trip. Everything in this store was marked down 50% to 75%. It isn't damaged, just stuff Disney doesn't want to sell anymore. I got this really cool sweatshirt that was originally $56 for $15! And a bunch of really cool pins for $3 each. And a bunch of other stuff. :thumbsup2

We then went to Downtown Disney for dinner. We decided to eat at the Rainforest Cafe. There was an hour wait so we walked about the area and did some more shopping. My husband bought me a very cool bear at the Build a Bear store and I dressed him up as Eeyore. Eeyore is my absolute favorite character!

Today is Disneyland's birthday and I tried to find out if they would have a special pin for it but the cast members I talked with weren't sure. There was nothing in their binder but the one had heard there is a pin coming out today so I will have to keep my eyes open. This binder they had was really cool, it showed all the pins coming out over the next several months!

Dinner was good...standard food...I wasn't really that hungry but ordered a burger anyway. Food was good, environment good, but we have a Rainforest at home too so we have experienced this before. My daughter ordered a pasta dish she didn't like and the waiter happily replaced it with another burger. It was good to meet some more of my husband's family and they were really very nice. It's too bad that we won't get to see them again this trip but they invited us to their house whenever we want to come out to visit, which of course sounds great to me because that means another trip to Disneyland!

Well I am going to go shower for the day...we are planning to leave here by 5:50 and walk to the Disney entrance which should take us about 20 minutes. We are going to experience Magic Morning at Disneyland this morning. We have dinner planned tonight at Goofy's Kitchen.

I will try to keep you updated...but it really depends on how well I can sleep in tomorrow or what time we get back tonight. :lmao: I have never been great at trip reports but I will do my best. I will post pictures when I get home.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer them.

Have a magical day!

Jes

Sounds like a lot of fun so far!!!! I have a good friend that took me to the WDW CM's store, it was so cool!!! Enjoy your trip.

Thanks for sharing. Have fun hitting the park today and be sure to keep us posted. :thumbsup2

(Wish I was there too! :sad1: )

How fun! You are really making me antsy for upcoming trip! That store sounds very cool! :thumbsup2

Jes have a great day in the parks! I totally forgot that today is Disneyland's birthday! What a treat to be in the park on this special day. Have fun!

How fun to get a report from someone actually there! I'm so happy to hear the weather is plesant so far. We'll be there on Sunday!
I hope you enjoyed your first day in the parks!

Hey Jes, I believe the CM store would be the highlight of my trip also!:) Sounds like you and your family will have loads of fun!
How are the crowds in the parks?
Enjoy and remember to stay cool!:dance3:

Sounds like a great start! Is it your first time to DLR? I notice your from Jersey and you mentioned there's no humidity, there never is on the west coast. I didnt even know what humidity was until I left the west coast.

Hey, Jes, great "in progress" trip report! Sounds like a perfect start. I can totally relate to being wide awake at 3 a.m. with anticipation, while the rest of the crew snoozes. I hope you can sleep well for the rest of the trip, so you have lots of energy! Stay hydrated. Hope it's all magical!

There is a dedication ceremony at 4:45pm today in the Town Square. Hope you have fun at the Park and being part of the birthday celebrations!

Thanks! Really, I think my body just felt that it was more like 6 and it was time to get up. I was tired last night though it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I was able to sleep until 5 am today. =D

Fun!

I just did a search for "birthday" on disneypins.com. They released a 53rd anniversary pin for DLR on 5/30/08: http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pintrading/pin?id=36105

Said it's a limited edition of 1000 pins, so ebay sellers I'm sure bought those up the first weekend they were out.

I know, that's what one of the CMs told me yesterday. Sad that those who were actually there on the birthday couldn't get a pin to commemorate it!

I had heard that there was a dedication ceremony but unfortunately we missed it!

Thanks to everyone for reading!

Hey J_Lehr,

I'm from Jersey too, and I will be there at the end of the month. I am interested in the shuttle service you used. Did the shuttle take you straight to the hotel without any stops? I will also be staying at the same Marriott.

I see you are having a great time. Wish I had been there for the birthday celebration. Maybe there will still be some commemorative pins when I get there. Well, you are missing the 95+ temperatures, and all that sweltering humidity we are having in Jersey.

Mickey, here I come!!!:cheer2:

Eeyore is my absolute favorite character!

Thanks for the reminder. What is Eeyore? A dog? Hippo? Rolly Polly whatever?

thanks
jan
