We *are* going to Star Wars W/E **WE ARE BOOKED :)

Yeah, that's worse. Plus, renting a car and driving isn't really an option for you.

Congratulations on booking!

I just went to google maps....
5,155 km from my place to WDW.... I'll fly instead :scared1:

Thanks for the congrats :)

Yay! Congrats on booking!

I am going to be very bored between now and December. :rolleyes1 I am ready to make ADRs now! And flight reservations! Oh, except flights were $1600 when I looked the other day. We typically pay about $700. OK. So NOT flight reservations! Just ADRs! :dance3:

I will start my spread sheet!

If we end up splitting to AKV I'll let you know :) I have never stayed on the Jambo side so I may check it out as a possibility. We Loved the food at Mara and one of the CMs there, Rose was such a delight to see everyday.

We loved AKL even before they had DVC rooms. Now we seem to keep booking things like value and concierge that they don't offer at Kidani.

We like Mara, too. One lady (Marilyn is her name, I think) has been there since we first started going to AKL.

Yes... I am seriously considering adding 50 points at AKV just so I can get Concierge or Value... more for the value option I think.

50 won't go very far. I think you need more. :rolleyes1

I went ahead and added a 15th night. Might as well stay as long as we can. And with all 15 nights in the same room it will be really nice. Moving is a pain in the tush. I wonder if we'll get savanna view this time? We had pool view last time. I would rather have a regular pool view room than a handicapped savanna view, so I guess we'll see what we end up with!

hahaha we just need enough for a studio for 4-5 nights; we never go longer than 10 days or so stop putting evil thoughts in my mind to get even more!! :D

I agree on moving rooms. I liked doing the split stay this last trip and getting to experience two different resorts. But it was a pain to have to do the switch. Not a huge pain but definitely an inconvenience. Having to pack back up and move everything over then unpack again. I think I'll stick to single resort stays for now on.

The first year we had our DVC points we moved 3 times in 2 weeks. It was not something I would do again.

This year we had a pool view room for 2 nights, then the villa for 13. We just pulled stuff out of the carry-on bags for the first part and didn't even open the big bags until we got to the villa.

Moving from one room to another in the same building could not have been easier, but still, by the time we got our keys for the villa, called Bell Services to move the luggage, etc. it took over an hour. We had planned to go to SWW that morning but we were running late so we put it off until the following weekend.

Next year we will be in one villa the whole time and we won't be going to Universal, so that will simplify things.

I agree, congrats on booking, let the planning begin! :)
As for flying from Hawaii to HK , do it! You are almost there any way! RIght?:goodvibes

1600! Really? I do miss the days when I would fly for $60 to Orlando but now at most I will only spend $200 round trip w taxes! I guess it helps that in the winter I can leave and come back at any weird time. So if a good flight leaves in the middle of the week it is no biggie for me. But $1600! I would be in Europe for that! However I might trade you the $$$ for the flight for the ability to spend 15 days in WDW!!!!

American is the only airline with their schedule up right now. The $1600 would be for all 3 of us, round trip. But I think they just throw some random price on the flights that are so far away. I don't think they expect anyone to actually BOOK flights for 11 months from now, so pricing them at $255 EACH WAY is not a concern. Though I will say I have seen the flights at $1100 round trip for the 3 of us and they were completely serious. That's how we ended up on AirTran.

you know what's sad... I wish I could get flights for $1100 return from here for 2 people. :scared1:

That's pretty scary! We can typically find airfare for around $230 per person round trip, sometimes just a bit higher, sometimes a bit lower (but that was in December on SW a few years ago). I wouldn't book airfare before DH's vacation is locked in anyway. Learned that lesson the hard way when our dates moved and it cost me $300 in change fees.

I try to stick to under $200 myself. I love Southwest. Although their prices can be weird. Last year I had a nice flight that left at 6:30 on Friday. I loved that flight as it got me in on Friday night so I had all day Saturday. This year that flight was double what I could get on Saturday so I ended up not getting in until Saturday afternoon. I love when I can snag a $60 one-way fare. I have the Southwest app on my iPhone and get the Ding! alerts but I've never seen one from PIT to MCO :(

::yes:: It cost me $1400 return for two of us booking in May for Dec. And, the prices are now up to $1600. They typically keep climbing as the dates get closer unlike the drops you are hoping for. Every now and then you can get lucky with a late (as in 2 months) booking.

There are some discount airline choices a 4-6 hr drive away. But, it's hard to get them below $1000 return (for 2 of us) unless we book on the day the flights are released and the flight times tend to end up requiring a hotel stay and a roughly 16 hr trip home-to-wdw. At 16 hrs for $1000, I'd rather spend $1400 for a 6-8 hr trip without an extra hotel or $600 for a 24 hr drive plus a hotel each way.

Good luck finding decent prices from BC.

We usually go to Seattle, the gas, food, hotel, parking plus air from there is still cheaper than flying out of here! One time I did get lucky and it was approx $1000 for hubby and I return. I was happy with that.

Our last trip there were 7 of us, cost out of Seattle was about $330 per person, from home it was about $650 each... do the math on how much we saved. :scared1: I am looking at flights now for us to head to Alberta and it's over $800 for the pair of us! It's an hour and twenty minute flight!

At those prices, it might not actually be worse for you than for us. Good luck finding good choices?

How far is it to Seattle?

With the border or without? ;) If we could drive straight through from home give or take 2.5-3 hours... the border can tack on anything from 15 minutes to a few hours depending on how busy it is.

Yuck. Airfare is not fun. It is more fun than driving, though.

I got an alert from Fare Compare today with flights on American for $330 per person round trip. But the schedule stops at April. I do think the other carriers came down in price eventually after I booked on AirTran last year. But AirTran was OK. The airport debacle would have been easily avoidable IF we had known the details ahead of time (no curbside baggage check-in, no porter, no luggage carts, no signs to the AirTran desk, 200 people in the security line). If we fly them again we will be prepared.

SW DING! fares have been paltry. I used to see DING rates to Orlando and Kansas City pretty frequently and now there are NONE. I did get one from KC to Dallas (after I was already BACK from driving) but the fare from Dallas TO KC wasn't on DING. :headache: I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a DING! fare for Dallas to Orlando. We have only flown to Orlando on SW once, but I do check their fares for each trip. Last year they were every bit as expensive as American!

Yep, that border really adds time. It's part of what necessitates the hotel stay for us if we try to fly with a discount airline. We just can't make a 6am flight after a 4 hour drive with the risk of an additional border delay.
