HI All!!!

Well our next trip to the world is less than two weeks away. We always ship a big box down, so it is easier on the flight. Well we did not book Delta or a direct flight from our local airport. We are flying out of Tri cities ( smaller local airport ) on US Airways. It connects in Charlotte, NC. Also we do not have the cool baggage check at the resort for the return home.

SO, we have decided to ship almost everything.. LOL I mean everything. We are shipping all of my clothing, hairdryer, curling iron, spare shoes, meds, toliet articles, All my hubby's stuff, Winter stuff, most of my dd stuff. We are even shipping the stroller. We have 2 big boxes, 1 small box, and the stroller box.

We are using UPS. Old Key West will hold are items for free, and we decided it is so worth it not to deal with it in the airport! I know it could get lost, but I think it could get lost with the lay over too. So, with UPS I will know before I leave if it arrives! With the airport we would find out at the baggage claim if it is lost. :sad1:

SO who else does this?????

The only thing we will have is a small carry on with my dd custom clothing, a change of clothing for us, and my big purse/diaper bag with dd travel stuff.

I don't have an answer, but I remember seeing your adorable custom clothes here last year. Do you have any pics for what you've made this time?

Sounds good to me, except I would keep the medications with you. If I was that organized I'd attempt to do this too!

Honestly, that, to me, sounds like more of a hassle than just checking it as luggage. :confused3

It's not something I'd do, but if you think it will make things easier for you, then I don't see a problem with it.

I can tell you that we ALWAYS have a connecting flight any time we fly anywhere. There just aren't any direct flights to major cities from our tiny airport. Despite that, we've never had any issues with lost luggage.

we usualy ship a box with the bulky stuff that just takes up too much room (shoes, water toys, swimsuits...) but nothing i know i can't either live without on the trip or easily replace. i'de never ship meds since if they are lost i might not be able to refill them (insurance does'nt cover new bottle due to loss, and trying to co-ordinate with the md having a perscription called into a home national chain pharmacy then go to it in orlando-iiiick.)

i think my big concern would be if the package got lost or delayed. don't think travel insurance covers it (whereas with airport luggage delays they give a stipend of so much per day to at least get some replacements while you're waiting). last thing i want to do is have to go out and replace all our clothing needs while on vacation.

we can almost never get direct flights anywhere-only time i had luggage delayed (and it was'nt lost, just put on another later flight) was the one time i DID have a direct flight:rotfl2:

In September I went to a conference in Orlando and I shipped all of my things. I didn't have nearly what you have and I was staying with a friend. So I shipped it to her house and had the UPS store issue a pickup order the day after I left. Worked like a charm. Cost me about $20 but was well worth it in the long run. I was planning on just doing carry on luggage for the trip but with the restrictions I could not even take my make-up so shipping it all was a great way to go.
I work for a college and out bookstore does UPS so setting this up was very easy. The UPS driver even told me when to have the package there for him to pick-up so I would have my clothes when I got there.

I know that when you ship UPS ground insurance is included. When filling out the paperwork you have to declare the value of your baox and give a description of its contents. We use UPS to ship our stuff down and have never had a problem. I love that you can see it arrive and who signed for it before you even leave for your trip! Personally I'm like the OP and wouldn't trust the airport and would trust UPS alot more! We ship all our toiletries, snacks, shoes, swim things for the kids, and more. We only bring a carryon for each of us on the plane. This has worked out great for us.

Hey guys

It is going to cost us like 50 bucks to ship all of it. Well worth it for my hubby not to start off a vacation in a bad mood. It has taken 5 years of marriage to learn this. :rotfl:

When I say meds. I mean tylenol, cough med, allergy med, Over the counter stuff. My major meds - Midrin for my pregnancy migranes and phen tabs for morning sickness will be on me! I just know I will get in the air and get sick:sick: , so I need those with me~

I just dont want my over the counter stuff with me. You have to check it, and we are only taking a carry on.

See my hubby suffers from crowd syndrome:laughing:

Any time he is in a crowd he goes nuts.:furious: If he has to deal with luggage in a crowd we may end up on the six o'clock news! No joke. The older he is getting the worse his nerves are.:faint: He is fine if he can just walk in the crowd with out any thing else going on, but throw in a situation and it is all over. His dark side comes out!:darth:

This way we all can enjoy are vacation!!!!

We go twice a year and ship UPS Ground a week in advance. Mostly things we know we won't bring back - boxed poptarts, cereal bars, oatmeal, ez macs, snacks, toiletries, lots of zipper bags, dry laundry detergent, peanut butter, pillowcases, juice boxes, foil, brita with filters, duncan donuts coffee and an espresso pot - sometimes a bended pool noodle which doubles for padding. I'm just packing a box up now. Just threw in goggles, flip flops, tylenol, decongestants & cough syrup, dollar store gloves and hats. I use my sealer machine to make packets of pre-measured coffee & laundry detergent and seal up anything that could break. I have a check-list that I keep a copy on me and in the top of the box. I'm ready to go next month!:cool1:

Can I ask how much a box of this size costs to ship UPS? I am thinking of a similar box for our trip in July.
Also can you carry medications in a carry-on or do they have to be checked? I haven't flown since 200 and I know a lot has changed since then.
Thank You for any info!

Wow, I have to say that in all the times I've gone to Disney, this has NEVER occured to me, and I really like the idea of shipping stuff UPS that I won't have to lug to the airport!

The only concern I have, is how to you get that stuff back home? Do you have UPS pick it up at the resort, or what?

More info please! :)
