DH, SD and I are going on our first WDW trip in September. I am already thinking about our next trip and hoping that BB will be offered while we are there. DH and I are planning on TTC this fall (maybe we will have a disney baby?!?!) If I do BB, as long as we dont have problems TTC, we would have a newborn (2-3 months old?) at the time of returning for 2011. Would it be crazy to take a newborn? My SD will be 13 this year for our trip, and 14 next year (2011). So we would have a newborn and a 14 yr old. Thoughts?

I was you age when I had my daughter. All she did was sleep but she was so tiny! (5lbs) I would not feel comfortable taking a newborn to Disney just because I wanted to go on a BB. That's just me.

I posted a question on here about what was the youngest infant you have taken to WDW. I asked bc I am 13 weeks pregnant and before I got pregnant we had planned a vacation to WDW. I have 2 other children and I am due in Oct. Our trip is planed for Dec. It turns out that there are many on here who have brought or know someone who has brought a 5 week old, 7 week old etc. to WDW. We are most likely going to be going on this trip in Dec with my 2 kids who will be 7 and 4 and then their little brother or sister who will be 6-7 weeks old. I have till Oct 19 to decide(that is when I have to pay in full).
Good Luck with what you decide.

We just got back from taking our 10 week old...also have 3 other kid ( 15,11 and 5). It was such an easy trip with him and we had a wonderful time. :goodvibes

I carried him in the Beco pretty much the whole trip. Got to the point that we didn't even bring a stroller in the parks because we just didn't need one.

We're going again in June and he'll be 5 months. Contemplating possibly leaving him with grandma only because the heat is stifling in June and I'm worried about him in the intense heat.

I took my DS in May at 6 weeks. There were record temps that week (high 90s) and he did great! I carried him in a ring sling most of the time. It was super easy!!

I would rather take a three month old than an 18 month old in many ways...(have done both twice). My three month olds (now 6 and 12) loved all the pretty lights at night and all the other sparkling, glittering things to be found at WDW. When my 12 year old was just a couple of weeks old, one of the only things we found to calm him was a Winnie the Pooh cartoon movie. He watched them every night during his fussy time to calm down. He was just intrigued when he actually saw Pooh at Disney--and we have the pictures to prove it. Minnie Mouse took the sweetest pictures with him at 'Ohana breakfast...I treasure those memories. Start a routine with the baby when he or she comes home from the hospital and you should manage quite nicely by three months.

18 months old are precious at Disney, too...but a ton more work to keep their behavior and moods stable...Fear of fire works, characters (sometimes), melt-downs when things don't go their way, etc...

Thank you so much for all the info! I really appreciate it! I havent even talked to DH about it yet, but it has crossed my mind a few times. ;)

I have seen many, many young infants at Disney. A few have been peacefully sleeping. A majority were clearly miserable. All too often it is too hot and overstimulating for a young baby. Besides, germs that older kids and adults can fight off without too much trouble can cause serious sickness in babies.

I "get" taking older babies, whose resistance is stronger and who can actually enjoy the sights and characters, even though they probably won't remember them. I just don't understand exposing very young babies, though.

I would take a baby of that age, but would be inclined to use a sling rather than a stroller. At that age the baby is very easy - they don't need to get up and run around, they aren't throwing tantrums, they haven't learned to talk back yet.

As for germs - the only way to boost their immune system is to expose them to germs whilst still maintaining basic hygiene (hand washing etc). I breastfed all my kids, and at that age they were still getting antibodies to protect them from illnesses. An example of this is that my eldest was the only person in my family to escape the flu in 1999. The rest of us came down with it - our parents, siblings etc - and it was proper flu, not just a bad cold. My son was fine throughout.

We took DS at 4 months. It was an extended family trip, so we would not have chosen that age, but it went REALLY well. We obviously had a lot to carry, went in Feb. so it wasn't too hot and used a stroller and our own pack and play (to avoid germs on one from hotel).
I was breastfeeding, so we used childcare stations. He did not go on hardly any rides, but we took turns going with DD.
WATCH OUT for noise- we didn't know where to go and were in Fantasyland during fireworks and I actually started to cry as I ran out to get his little ears away from the tremendous noise.
I think the sling recommendation is great if they work for you.

I'll be taking my dd about that age in July for dd9's 10th birthday at MK.

It can be done--the key is: know your weather, plan a relaxed schedule, let baby dictate to the extent reasonable. (i.e. if baby is crying--stop....the next ride can wait).

You just have to be willing to let go so that you can enjoy Disney while at the same time keeping on top of baby's comfort and needs.

My life doesn't stop for an infant--it just takes a detour.

FWIW--I have seen very cranky adults who probably should have stayed home. ;)

Sling+Recall=BAD
Sling+ Heat= REAL BAD

Sling+Recall=BAD
Sling+ Heat= REAL BAD

One style of sling was recalled--b/c it was bad. (I use slings and the ones that got recalled have always looked unsafe to me.)

There are still other ways to wear baby that are safe--and are fine in the heat.

Generalizing them all as bad is like saying that all vehicles are bad due to Toyota's recalls.
