WDW with 22 month old

just got back from a trip with just my 4 kids (10, 7, 3, 16mo) and me! It was awesome...well, kind of like having a baby....sometimes it's uncomfortable when you're doing it...but after....you don't remember any bad...only the good.

We have visited Disney once (planning our next trip for 2007). our son was five and our daughter 21 months old. We won the trip and would not have planned to take such a young child on such a long flight (10 hours from UK).

To be honest she was better than DS on the flight. She loved every minute of the holiday. Had her afternoon nap in one of the large strollers we hired and we used this time to take our son on the 'big boy' rides while one of us sat out with DD.

We ate tea early each day so that she would join in and missed all the queues!

She loved Small World at MK and one of her constant requests was 'more mall world' - I think we rode this ride and the Winnie the Pooh about seven times each!

The servers at the CSR were fantastic. She drank gallons of water and toddled around all the parks.

The only day we struggled was at Seaworld, she just couldn't do with the size of the whales! She slept through all the fireworks at MK and can't remember a thing about the holiday. Would I do it again? Absolutely, until the day I die I shall remember her feeding tigger ice-cream at Crystal Palace and then demanding 'don't walk, you bounce' which he did!

Take the little one and enjoy! Even better with a built in babysitter on site.

In a previous (childless) life, I was one of those fanatics who had to have everything planned with strategies to beat the lines and get as much park experience out of each and every day. Clearly this is not how you play the game to win with toddlers!

Actually, you can still plan best strategies for "beating the lines". We downloaded the two day touring plan for young children for the Magic Kingdom from Tour Guide Mike and it worked like a charm. It elminated a lot of wait time...which was great for our young children to avoid. So...go ahead and plan your best strategies...with the caveat that the childrens' needs will supersede the system at some points- and that is ok!

That's exactly the plan we followed and it was perfect. really wonderful. we left the MK the first day by 12:30 or 1 and had done so much it was amazing.

Yep, remember "Plan, and then plan to change." You just have to readjust what "getting your money's worth" means, you go on vacation to be happy and enjoy yourself, so if you do then you have gotten your money's worth right? Even if you miss a few rides, if you have enjoyed yourself then the money was well spent. Have a great trip!

I'm sure it will be physically more difficult, but that will be drawfed by how much more emotionally rewarding it is to have the 22 month old with you all! We'll be going next year with a 4 yr old, nearly 3 yr old, nearly 2 year old, and a 15 month old! We must be bananas!

DS will be 22 months when we go in July. Thanks for making me feel better about my decision to take him. People think he's too young to go to WDW.
