Greetings!
We're planning our first trip to US/IoA this May/June, to see the new WWoHP. We figure a whole week would probably be too much for just Universal, since our daughters will be ages 6 and 8 -- too young for the big thrill rides there.

So we were thinking of rounding out the week with a few days at WDW. Wondering if anyone has any feedback/ideas on how to split this up. Here are thoughts that we have:

- We've been to WDW thrice before, so it's not like we have to commando through every inch of the parks.
- For the UO portion of the trip, we were thinking of staying at an on-site resort to get FOTL access.
- For the WDW portion, we were thinking of taking advantage of that 35% off deluxe resorts promotion.
- Time-wise, I'm thinking 3 days would probably be adequate to do UO, especially since we're not planning on riding the Hulk 87 times. That would leave 3 (maybe 4) days for WDW.
- We already bought the 7-day UO 2-park passes.

Thanks for your comments!

We have done this twice before, with this Christmas we did AKL 9 nights and PBH 5 nights. Make sure you do US as the last part of your trip as you get very spoiled with FOL and the easy trek from hotel to parks. Also, it's very easy to spend part of the day at the parks and part at the pool.

We are doing the same in March: 2days at Universal and 8 at WDW. We are staying onsite at Universal and have rented a house for the portion of our Disney stay.

I think your idea is a good one, and you have some added flexibility with the FOTL pass..especially if the Harry Potter portion of the theme park is open when you go.

Have a great time :)

i have been doing the split vacations since 1993.

i do the motherland first, and end my vacation at the darkside.

i stay onsite at each resort to get the most out of my trip.

i think you will do fine by making it a combo trip for you and the family.
even though i have been doing this for years, i always say, next year i shall stay longer....

over the past years i have stayed within 7 to 10 nights at disney and 4 to 7 nights at universal resorts.

my only suggestion is to do the darkside portion of the trip last.
you do not have to stand in lines for the rides and shows when you are a guest at the UO hotels.

We've also been doing both WDW and Universal for years now. We always rent a car when we're down and stay the entire time on-site at WDW (because of the AP discount on the room), then drive over to Universal for the day (we also have AP's for Universal). Neither my DH nor I are really into the thrill rides, so not having FOTL isn't a big deal to us. If the Universal hotels offered an AP discount similar to Disney, we would definitely consider staying on-site there, but can't justify the difference between room rate with Disney vs Universal as it currently is just to get FOTL. Truthfully, it would be cheaper for us to buy the express pass if we really wanted to partake in some of the thrill rides. We figure we can use the extra money we're saving on the room to buy souvies and a nice dinner at Citywalk.
