Does anyone know if its possible to ride disney transportation (buses, boats, monorail, etc.) without staying at the resorts at disney?

If so, how do you go about getting a ticket or what ever you need to ride disney transportation (buses, boats, monorail, etc.)?

Also, how much does this cost if this is possible?

I will be meeting a friend that lives in the Orlando area and he will not be going to the parks, but we will be going to DTD and the resorts.

Is this possible? Anyone know?

Thanks,

Joy

No problem riding the transportation system, if you have a park pass. Just don't try to access the parks from DD, cause they don't go to the parks from there. Your park pass will get you transportation from park to park.

Why would your friend be going to the resort? You can get busses from DD to the resorts. No problem. But, you should probably have a resort ID to one of the resorts. Security issues, might stop the casual resort hopper.

Thanks for the info Gail Hayden,

My friend will not be staying at a resort or have any park passes and I just thought it would be easier for him to go with me instead of him driving everywhere. I won't be having transportation other than the disney transportation and I am in a ECV and cannot walk which would make it more difficult to just catch a ride with my friend. So, I wanted to know if he could get tansportation passes somewhere so that he could travel with me?

We would be going to the resorts to eat dinner and shop at DTD.

I never saw anyone ask for any type of id or pass on any of the Disney Transportation we used this june- and we used busses, monorail, boat, and ferry.
They ask for id at the gate when you are driving into many of the resorts but they don't stop and ask for id of bus passengers.

This is just my personal experience.
I think he can ride the Dis busses with you - no problem.

I have only been asked for Resort ID on two occasions at the same location.

I was leaving MK at closing when it was extremely crowded and was heading for the Resort Monorail. I was asked to show Resort ID to get on the Resort Monorail.

I have been asked to show a park ticket of some type once when I was entering the Transportation & Ticket Center to board the monorail for Magic Kingdom.

That is the only time I've been asked to show anything except at the turnstyles.

I think long ago they offer a transportation fee (like $5) - but I won't think he will have problems.

are you staying at a WDW resort? then you could just show your ID - security just one person in a party to have an ID.

Oh this is funny - well it wasn't at the time - we were staying at the Polyn on this trip - but were at EPcot - this person actually tried to stop us from boarding the monrail to the TTC.....say it was for guests only - anyway once I showed him by Polyn Id (and then it say Polyn - before the number system) - oh it was so funny - he ran after us apologizing......

Never saw anyone try this again!!!!!

One time in 20 years that we have been visiting Epcot.....

Thanks for all your replies everyone. I really love this board! Very helpful all the time.
