WDW transportation being rationed?

With the national crisis concerning fuel supplies, will the bus transportation at WDW be rationed? :confused3 Could this mean fewer busses running,... more crowded busses,... crankier guests? :confused3 I'm thinking of cancelling as an option if this convenience factor becomes restrictive. :earseek: What is the cancellation policy without penalty anyway? Have a Disney day! :earboy2:

I don't think you need to worry about the Disney buses. From what I've heard, they have their own source of fuel.

No one has their 'own source of fuel'. They may have their own refilling stations but they buy the fuel from the same places that the stations do.

There's more of a problem of getting fuel where it's needed than an actual shortage of gas supplies.

Okay, let me rephrase. I read that they get their fuel from a source that is basically stock pilled for them. They buy it and store it. It would be awhile before they are affected.

And the more people who are affected by gas who cancel their trips means fewer people in the parks and needing the buses, so even if they space the bus trips out more, it still won't be peak capacity PLUS less service.

Lets not forget that Disney also owns a partial interest in the Sid R. Bass company Which deals with crude petroleum and natural gas production.

Most large Corp. contract for fuel a year at a time just like most school districts do, a set price. :flower:

Do any of the Disney buses use natural gas as fuel? I seem to recall an article about that a few years ago .

I thought that was the other way around. I thought Sid owned quite a bit of Disney stock - he used to be one of the majority stockholders...

Imagine for a moment that Disney started checking ID's, park passes, room keys, etc. and refused to take unauthorized passengers on the buses. There would be negligible reduction in the passenger load. There just aren't that many "unauthorized" guests on the buses.

Imagine for a moment that Disney made a move towards a more monorail oriented transportation system by having most resort buses dock at Epcot instead of Magic Kingdom to save driving distance and fuel. The existing monorails, which would have to serve that much resort to MK traffic under a future four park monorail system, could not handle the load.

i am not staying onsite, and was told that i could still use disney buses, because a valid WDW ticket automatically entitles you to use all disney transportation

The Bass family as individuals do own a good amount of Disney stock (although not nearly as much as they did). However Disney owns a portion of the Sid R. Bass petroleum and natural gas production company.

I didn't notice any change last week. There was one instance where a bus driver wouldn't leave until the bus was full, but it was closing time at EPCOT. There were several other times that I was one of only a few people on the bus.

That is interesting, we are told that one of the "perks" of staying onsite is the use of busses. It makes little sense that off site hotels would be able to use Disney transportation. If they have the fleet to accomodate everyone I wouldn't mind at all, but if the "off site" visitors bog down the transportation system for those staying onsite, I would have a problem.

Can someone check this out??

Actually, I hadn't heard of any "National Crisis" over fuel supplies. Media induced panic, to be sure, and local temporary shortages due to no power, or inability to actually deliver gas.
My hunch is that if the price is "right" there will be an abundance of gasoline--.

I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR THE ANSWER TO THIS TOO. I WAS ALWAYS TOLD IT WAS AN ONSITE PERK.

What is wrong with people? I might cancel my vacation because there might be a small inconvience to me by limited buses? It does not matter if Disney bought enough gas for ten years, the refineries are not operating. The gas can not be made. Disney does not have a one year supply of gas stuck in a container somewhere. If they do, they should be trucking it to the people who need it to survive. The transportation system to get the gas from the terminals to the buyer are in shambles. My husband is in the industry. Right at this moment there is no shortage of gas. The ability to get the gas from where it is to where it is going is the problem. In the months to come there will be a shortage of fuel because the stored fuel will be used up and the refinieries can not manufacture more. Not trying to start a panic, just telling it like it is. If we as a nation, don't start conserving (and that certainly means more than worrying about the length of time to get from AK to MK) you will not even be able to get to your vacation destination!

The Disney bus service is available to people who stay off site in slected Disney associated hotels.

Almost quoting from a Disney park brochure of a few years ago, "Disney does not provide transportation from off site hotels but some off site hotels do. Once you are on Disney property (ed note: includes at Downtown Disney), Disney transportation will take you wherever you need to go."

So far the only guests from time to time regarded as unauthorized are:

1. Offsite guests trying to use a resort bus to get to a park in time for early extra magic hours,

2. Any guests using the resort monorail at MK's opening or closing times and not staying at Polynesian, Contemporary, or Grand Floridian, (No fuel is saved since these guests should use the express monorail or ferry.)

3. Guests headed to resorts not their own late in the evening or at other times of high security.

If you have a valid park hopping ticket, you are allowed to use WDW transportation to get from park to park. AND if you have an ADR for a resort restaurant, you are allowed to use WDW transportation to get there.
