WDW Tours and Smoking

I would like to sign us up for a tour, but hubby smokes and I'm thinking he's worried that he will not be able to take a smoke break during a three hour tour. Does anyone have any experience with taking a tour and being a smoker?

What about the Petty Driving Experience? Are there places that one can smoke there?

Thanks!!

Get him the patch and some Nicorette. He will thank you for it in the long run.

There is no smoking while on Disney Tours. THats a policy basically because of people like me. I am HIGHLY allergic to cigarette smoke, as in we could be outside and if someone smokes within 20 feet of me I will get REALLLLLLY sick. Disney is sensitive to facts like that. I just wish more places were :(

Also, kids will be there so generally they don't want a smoking example set. I am not saying that its wrong or not, but I am saying that no sane parents wants their kids to smoke, so they try to limit their exposure to it while on vacation usually.

Id go with the patch and some chewing gum for him for the courtesy of everyone there and so you avoid trouble with Disney.

Forgot to add that there probably ARE some smoking areas. Look on your park map to find those. I am not sure but I would imagine Disney is also sensitive to addictions, and like ball parks would put aside a place for them, but while on tours it would not be permitted.

After reading this, I don't know whether to  or :rotfl:

Anyway, to the OP, my mom has the same concern. We're doing the 2 hrr Steam Train Tour at MK, and she's a smoker. I asked the ressie CM about taking breaks, and she said mom will have to wait until the tour is over. The CM was very nice about it, and said that on the park map, there are indications of where the smoking areas are, so that mom can go over after the tour and have her cigarette.
You may have to have a strategy like that, scope out a cigarette-area from the map that's close to where your tour is ending, and your DH can smoke in peace without doing harm to highly allergic people, children, wildlife, and to whom it may concern! ;)

I have been on nine different tours in the past few years, never a smoke break other than maybe on Backstage Magic at lunch break in MGM. I suppose you could duck out quickly to a smoking area for a fix. In general though, no smokes.

Preaching aside......

I agree, there are no "official" smoke breaks on tours.

However, I know that on the tour we took in the MK, there were plenty of potty breaks and lunch, meaning plenty of opportunities for smoke breaks.

As long as there's a smoking area within close proximity of where the bathroom is or the restaurant you're eating at, you'll have no problems whatsoever.

We had a smoker with us and it really was very easy for him to work in a smoke break. The restaurant we had lunch at was just feet away from the smoking section.

Just familiarize yourself with where the smoking sections are and it will be just fine.

Just an FYI - this can be a deadly combination. Much more so than smoking itself. Can cause a heart attack very easily. I wanted to do it and my Dr. said NO! Choose one or the other.

Yeah, I know that you shouldn't combine them. But he could choose one or the other.

I seem to have had a different experience than others but I ALWAYS got a smoke break on my tours. I've done 3 to date just this past year and the 'bathroom break " is ALWAYS long enough to go to the bathroom, fing the nearest smoking area and smoke away! I even fit in two breaks on the magic family tour in MK and it's only 2 hours long. Please let your smoking partner rest at ease and not stress and miss the magic these tours give!!! Smoking IS permitted at WDW, it's just in designated area's!!!

Sorrry, I know nothing about the "tom" petty driving expirence!

Thanks for all the suggestions.

As an FYI -- most tours -- exclusive of the Family Magic Tour do not allow participants under the age of 18, so my hubby or anyone else would not be exposing your children or anyone else's to second-hand smoke.:)

On a three-hour tour (a three-hour tour), I would assume there would be a bathroom break so that would be a good suggestion. Unfortunately, because it's a backstage tour, I may not be able to find any nearby smoking areas before the tour.

I may just forego the tour this time and sell my vouchers on Ebay.

But I really do appreciate all your input.

My mistake -- most tours require participants to be 16 (with proof of age) and not 18.

Sorry. :(

Disney_Freak56 -
By controlling people. DO NOT GIVE UP THE TOUR!! It's great !!! This is one of the tours I took this past year. Smoking is even more available because you are literally BEHIND the show and many many CM's smoke backstage(parking lot's mostly). You'll love the tour and afterwards you'll never go down Main St. again without looking UP to notice all the little things one can miss!! GO, TAKE SMOKE BREAKS AND ENJOY!!!

PS Love the reference to Gillians Island...Funny!!!

Hey Debbie!

Thanks for the support. Unfortunately, the tour is the Backstage Safari Tour at the Animal Kingdom. I'm guessing that they wouldn't really like it if hubby lit up backstage there. :D

Having been on the Keys to the Kingdom tour myself -- it was a great experience and we did take a couple of breaks -- restroom and a lunch break so that would have been okay. But having already done the tour and taking a newbie, it really wasn't an option.

Plus it's his first trip ever and I'm not sure how the whole Disney experience will go over with him -- I'm thinking he'll either love it or hate it. Not sure which one I prefer as I certainly enjoy my Disney trips without him. ::yes::

At Richard Petty there is a smoking area near the pit stop that is easily accessible for guests and drivers.

The backstage AK tour is not one I've done. Your rightfully cautious about not 'pushing' it because us Disney veterns never know how a 'newbie' will react. In my experience with bringing first timers, the 'less is more' philosophy works best!

Good Luck in your "tour guide" duties and have a great trip!!!
