WDW to spend 2 billion on parks

If you're referring to DISboards thread, Confirmed, official announcement - no official announcement about Star Wars Land!, keep in mind that it links to a TV news site article, Disney World: 'Nothing to announce' about 'Star Wars Land'.

A reporter asked WDW spokesman Bryan Malenius to confirm the rumor about Star Wars at DHS. The spokesman's reply included, "We ... have nothing to announce at this time."

I would expect any Disney spokesperson, executive, or Imagineer who knows what will be announced in August to answer a reporter's question this way -- regardless of whether or not a Star Wars Land is coming to DHS.

That's not the same as a Disney executive confirming no upcoming Star Wars Land or Cars Land, denying that such plans are in the pipeline of unannounced projects.

OP post has merit just not in a 6 time frame a 12 year is more of a reality. As a fan I would love

OP post has merit just not in a 6 year time frame a 12 year is more of a reality. As a fan I would love 2.5 billion dollars in projects opening 2016-2018. 2016 avatar, 2017 epcot; 2020 dhs huge multi billion dollar expansion. 2023 TL or other MK land expansion. .. then the cycle continues.

This makes sense allot these costs add up to all the rumors and whatever else has been said. In MK I would expect most of those costs are still towards new fantasyland. EPCOT needs that revamp and I can definitely see that money being spent there. AK Avatarland is going to cost a lot and this just shows it. DHS is the big kicker I definitely think if cars and Star Wars are both added it will cost one billion or more and from everything that has been said it seems more and more likely. I'm surprised disney springs expansion wasn't also on this list because that is going to cost a ton of money as well.

I think what is a likely motivator is that domestic tourism spending saw a pretty big increase this year, and it's projected to go up or remain steady.

So it's likely the purse strings might loosen up a little.

Seems like with annoncements high level Disney executives contradict statements
Interesting fact a Disney executive comfirmed no upcomming star wars or cars land. Again remember last D23 most were thinking cars land or TL expansion announcement and jay russo said no more major theme park spending, then a few months after that way out of the left Avatar land. Another thing too FLE grand opening a interview Tom Staggs said we have lots major projects in the works in centeral Florida including Avatar land. Its making it more fun and a challenge to speculate

Actually what he said was that they would be scalling back parks and resorts spending, scalling it back from some pretty big numbers. This was coming off the spending on Fantasyland, DCA make over, Aulani, and 2 new cruise ships. He said the yearly parks and resorts capital spending would be over $1 billion but no where near $2 billion, so if we say that number is $1.25 billion, thats still quite a bit of money to work with.

I would expect that it something on this scale was true, the budget for it would be entirely separate from NextGen, Grand Floridian DVC, and other projects. Like others have said, several billion dollars is not a crazy amount when you consider that it's spread over four parks and several years. You could almost knock that out with just Star Wars, Cars Land, and Avatar, assuming each of those actually happen.

The most intriguing part for me is a possible revamp of Future World. I'm not expecting a new pavilion but believe that upgrades to Imagination and Energy have to be in the plans for the next few years. When you add this to rumors of a new film for Soarin', it could be an exciting time to visit EPCOT once that gets rolling. It also wouldn't probably take the amount of time that it could take to see a full SW and CL set-up in DHS. I've been itching for EPCOT to start heading back towards prominence. They just need to put some work into revitalizing Future World.

Got some good info that Disney is planning on spending just over 2 billion dollars in the four parks over the next 6 years. Mk 600 million. FLE and a e ticket in tomorrow land. DAK 6
00 million for avatar land. EPCOT future world revamp withe new e ticket 400 million. Big winner DHS star wars land 1billion

Carsland yes....something using the technology of TSM to do Carsland, Mosnters, Inc. would be a better spend...

TO the expenditures....it's only about a months revenue for the World....

Keep in mind that DVC building is funded independently from DisneyParks. So more building of DVC isn't really a sign of increased park spending.

However, to support the addition of more rooms, they are going to need more places to put guests, so there would hopefully be a secondary effect.

Disney Vacation Development (which develops and markets DVC resorts), the Walt Disney World Company (which operates the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida), and Magical Cruise Company Limited (which operates Disney Cruise Line) are all wholly owned subsidiaries of the of The Walt Disney Company. And all of them are part of the Walt Disney Parks & Resorts business sector, whose chairman is Thomas Staggs. So when the Parks & Resorts sector invests a billion dollars, it's could go to any business entity within Parks & Resorts.

Disney Vacation Development is not funded independently from the parks. They draw in the same capital resources and approval process. For that matter, they're ultimately part of the same corporation as Disney's Media Networks (which includes ABC), Studio Entertainment (which includes Pixar and Lucasfilm), Consumer Products, and Interactive Media.

The Walt Disney Company can and does puts profits from one business into capital spending in another. Profits flow up to corporate and flow back down to where the most compelling business cases for capital investment.

That being said, each of the companies under the Walt Disney Parks & Resorts business sector has has its own P&L, and compelling business cases are likely to be funded based on their own merits.
