WDW shopping bag warning

Just wanted to share my experience with the new red/black shopping bags.
Everytime you buy something your purchase is put in one of these bags. With all the humidity and heat the ink transfered all over my clothing, skin. 3 shirts ruined by the time I finially caught on to it. Once I noticed the black ink I started turning the bags inside out. I think the ink ran from a combination of sweat and sunscreen rubbed against the black, the red did not run...
I treated the ink stains with shout and it did not come out.
I will be sending a letter to Guest Relations, I don't expect any compensation for my ruined clothing but they do need to know about the bag problem.

Bev

Well you're awful nice if you're not expecting any compensation. I'd want new shirts! :) Nonetheless, thanks for the heads up and be sure to write that letter or make a phone call to Guest Relations...you never know what they may say to or give to you.

I got wise to this a few years ago.

I purchased something and had it in one of those large plastic bags. Well, by the afternoon, my new Mickey socks were all different colors where the bag bumped.

I went to one of the stores (I believe it was the Emporium) and showed the lady what happened. She gave me a brand new pair of socks! I asked her if I could take the socks off I had on and wash them and bring them back to her so she could send them back to the manufacturer (sometimes they can get credit back for such items) but she said, "No" and made sure I had some cleaner socks. :flower:

So on my last trip, I purchased a smaller shoulder bag from the Emporium and carried any and all purchases I wanted to keep with me in there. Worked for me . . . and I had another WDW bag when I got home (like I needed another!) :rolleyes1

I had that same problem last year!!!!!! I was carrying one of their green and red bags and I had slung it over my shoulder, and I got ink everywhere!!!! Next week I am going to be a little more careful. I should have written a letter too, just to let them know.

Thanks for the "heads up"! I'm going next month and I can't afford to ruin my shirts (especially since they are maternity shirts and I've only got a precious few of them.) Good luck with everything and I really appreciate your advice. :sunny:

Wow, I have never had this problem, of course I travel in the cooler months. But this year we will be during a still somewhat hot time and I am so glad I read this.

Thanks!

i noticed that too, i was carrying one of those bags around, and looked at my hand and there was black ink all over them, fortunately it didnt get on my clothes or anything, but that is definitely a problem they need to fix!

I had the same problem in May. I had applied a lot of sunscreen, and wherever the bag touched skin, there was black ink. (I got some strange looks in the ladies' room scrubbing my legs!) Now I immediately turn the bags inside out and no more ink!! :cool1:

I have had this problem with more than just the Disney bags. There is a store (Strawberries) near where I used to work and their bags were black. They would always turn my hands black. They got wise after a while and made the bag white where the handle was.
Linda

Disney will refund your money or replace the shirts. I can't imagine them not doing that especially since it was their bags that caused the ruined shirts.

This is one reason why I have everything I buy sent to our resort...even if it's just a couple post cards or stickers. Don't have to carry it around and no way you can loose it or damage it.

Slightly OT: Do you know if you can you have purchases at DTD also sent to your resort? I'm planning on a shopping trip to the *bottomless* Disney store, and it would be great if I could just send everything back to our room.

Even better would be shipping it all home. The second half of our vacation is on the Disney Wonder, and it would be great if I didn't have to worry about packages. Do you happen to have any idea how this works or what the cost may be? I realize it depends on the weight of your items...I'm pretty clueless as I've never done this before. Just looking for any direction....

Thanks!

Yes, you can have the items you buy in DTD sent back to your room. I am not sure about the shipping costs, but you can have it sent to your home as well. Have a great trip!!!

Thanks! I'm sure there will be helpful CMs to assist me through the process. I'm hoping to send some Mr. Potatohead and My Little Pony parts right home!

It seems like this has been a problem with their bags for years at least. I remember the first time I went to WDW my dad got tired of carrying one of the bags and tied it off to his belt to carry it around at the end of the day he had that ink all over him. There must be nothing they can do since, the bags have gone through numerous design changes over the years and it's still a problem. :confused3

You don't pay sales tax if you are shipping out of state and that helps to offset the shipping charges. The charges aren't too bad.

Wow! That's good to know.. Now did you have any problems with the ink rubbing off on the items inside the bag after you turned it inside out?

:earseek: :earseek:

Thanks for telling us!! (I just love the DIS!) I have been to WDW many times and have never had such a thing happen! I will be more careful from now on!!

When did they change the bags?

I was there in April and it was the same white, with red, or blue or green, depending on the size. They've been using these bags for about 8 years now, correct?

Is this a new bag? Does someone have a photo of the bag?
